=== Configure Nexus Mod Manager ===
=== Configure Graphics Driver ===
With ''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'' properly configured, the next step is to initially set up our mod management utility.
{{AlertSmall‏‎|type=notice|text=This section of the guide is ''Nvidia'' specific. It is suggested that users of other video cards attempt to mimic these settings using equivalent software.}}
Instructions will go here.
With the base game setup completed, it is time to begin tweaking the graphics. Modern graphics drivers can be used to enhance a games built in functionality and add additional features. Perform the following:
Open ''Nvidia Control Panel'' and navigate to the ''Mange 3D Settings'' page.

=== Initial INI Tweaks ===
=== Initial Configuration Tweaks ===
The following INI tweaks aim to increase gameplay and visuals in ''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'' by tweaking the game engine to provide a better than vanilla experience.
The following tweaks aim to increase gameplay and visuals in ''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'' by tweaking the game engine to provide a better than vanilla experience. If a section exists, simply add the tweak to the bottom of that section or update existing parameter if present. If a section does not exist, add it at the bottom of the file.
TBD
==== General.ini ====
This file can be found in the ''<The Witcher 3>/bin/config/base'' folder.
===== Enable Debug Console Tweak =====
This tweak enables the debug console that can be used in conjunction with some mods.
<blockquote>
[General]<br>
DBGConsoleOn=true
</blockquote>
==== PlatformGameplay.ini ====
This file can be found in the ''<The Witcher 3>/bin/config/platform/pc'' folder.
===== Movement Responsiveness Tweak =====
This tweak will increase the movement responsiveness of the player.
<blockquote>
[Gameplay]<br>
LeftStickSensitivity=1.0
</blockquote>
==== user.settings ====
This file can be found in the ''<My Documents>/The Witcher 3'' folder.
===== Disable Anistropic Filtering Tweak =====
This tweak will disable the games internal Anistropic Filtering as it is now being handled by the driver.
<blockquote>
[Rendering]<br>
MaxTextureAnizotropy=0
</blockquote>
===== High Quality Mipmaps Tweak =====
This tweak will force the game to use much higher quality mip textures, improving the visual fidelity of the game at little to no performance cost.
<blockquote>
[Streaming/Textures]<br>
UseMipRefiner=true
</blockquote>
===== HUD Position Tweak =====
This tweak fixes the position of HUD elements at aspect ratios higher than 16:9.<br>
* For 16:10 aspect ratio:
<blockquote>
[Hidden]<br>
uiVerticalFrameScale=1.1253
</blockquote>
* For 21:9 aspect ratio (not needed for GOTY edition):
<blockquote>
[Hidden]<br>
uiHorizontalFrameScale=1.3125
</blockquote>

===== Memory Budget Tweak =====
''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'' has a texture memory budget that is set too low for the PC version of the game. Increasing it smooths out the frame rate by decreasing on-the-fly loads.
<blockquote>
[Rendering]<br>
TextureMemoryBudget=half your GPUs VRAM (i.e. 1024 for 2GB GPUs)
</blockquote>

===== Shadow Occlusion Culling Tweak =====
''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'' makes heavy use of occlusion culling to improve performance but sometimes this leads to visual bugs such as shadows popping in very close to Geralt or sunlight streaming through windows that disappears while moving in-doors. This tweak alleviates some of these issues.
* Note: The in-game "Shadow Quality" slider will reset to "Low". This is expected and the game will use the tweaked values appropriately as long as the slider is not moved in game.
<blockquote>
[Rendering]<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale0=1.5<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale1=3<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale2=2.5<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale3=2<br>
</blockquote>
Alternatively, for even higher fidelity at higher performance cost:
<blockquote>
[Rendering]<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale0=4<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale1=4<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale2=3<br>
CascadeShadowDistanceScale3=2<br>
CascadeShadowQuality=4
</blockquote>
===== Shadow Performance Tweak =====
This tweak can improve performance without a significant loss in visuals.
<blockquote>
[Rendering]<br>
CascadeShadowmapSize=2048
</blockquote>
===== Shadow Pop-In Tweak =====
''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'' has some issues with shadow pop-in on character held objects such as boxes, clothing, and weapons. This tweak makes the distance where this pop-in occurs to be further away from the player.
<blockquote>
[Rendering]<br>
CharacterShadowsFallbackDistance=40
</blockquote>

With the start of the journey complete, the Butcher of Blaviken strides strongly into the hunt for his adopted daughter Ciri. The important points to remember when installing mods are as follows:
* Mods are sorted into categories and should be installed in the order presented for proper overwrites. Any deviation from a standard installation will be clearly marked.
* Mods should be installed using the ''Witcher 3 Mod Manager'' for use by the game. For reference, each mod is installed with its own folder prefixed with "mod" and generally consist of bundles for textures or .ws files for script changes. Mods are loaded in alphabetical order and use the first instance of each file found.
* The recommended option/texture size will be specified next to the version number.
* Mods are sorted into categories; however, the order of installation does not affect the final result.
* The recommended option/texture size will be specified next to the version number when required.
* The recommended configuration changes and file(s) to edit will be specified directly after the mod notes.
* Backup a copy of the original mod archives in case a mod is ever taken down.

This first mod is essential to have a smooth modding experience with scripts.
===== [https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2134 Unification patch for 1.31 and 1.31GOTY] =====
'''Author:''' wghost81<br>
'''Version:''' 1.1<br>
'''Special Installation:''' Do NOT use ''Witcher 3 Mod Manager''. Instead, extract the ''content'' and ''Mods'' folder within the archive to the base game folder, overwrite all when prompted.<br>
'''Mod Notes:''' The patch contains only official 1.31 and 1.31 GOG GOTY scripts and only official fixes which are available to GOTY users. If you have non-GOTY version of the game, installing the patch will make your game almost identical to GOG GOTY. If you already have GOG GOTY version of the game, this patch will ensure your game is backwards compatible with non-GOTY while still keeping all GOTY changes and fixes. In other words, Unification patch makes both game versions identical, allows mod makers to release single version of their mods and saves mod users from mod version/game version conflicts.

=== Reshaping The Game ===
This section is dedicated to mods that affect the gameplay of ''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt''.

==== Base Overhaul ====
===== [https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/992 Ghost Mode] =====
'''Author:''' wghost81<br>
'''Version:''' 2.7.1<br>
'''Mod Notes:''' Ghost Mode is an overhaul mod which changes almost every aspect of gameplay: from combat and damage to loot and economy. The mod aims to create more challenging and balanced experience, while not deviating too far from vanilla system and principles, i.e. all game basics remain the same. The vanilla game has lots and lots of gameplay issues: skills not working as intended or not working at all, descriptions being wrong, decoctions not doing what they're supposed to do, quest levels and experience being weirdly distributed, etc. A large portion of this mod is dedicated to resolving these issues: fixing bugged skills and items, providing better descriptions, tweaking useless and overpowered skills and items to be more balanced, changing loot so dimeritium plate can no longer be found inside poor peasant's shack, etc.

==== Alchemy ====
===== [https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/750 Preparations] =====
'''Author:''' wghost81<br>
'''Version:''' 6.1<br>
'''Mod Notes:''' General idea of the mod is to turn meditation into more meaningful process: it's no longer used to simply skip time and auto-refill your potions and bombs, you need meditation to manage your character skills, equipment and alchemy.

==== Combat ====
===== [https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2719 Enhanced Targetting for UPatch] =====
'''Author:''' Mpstark<br>
'''Version:''' 3.1<br>
'''Mod Notes:''' ''The Witcher 3'''s automatic targeting fails to impress, especially in combination with the "softlock" mechanism — targets can change wildly for seemingly no particular reason, during a dodge, for example, which can lead to violent (and frustrating!) deaths from being locked in an animation in a completely unintended direction. This mod replaces Witcher 3's automatic targeting with one that is much more consistent, particularly for mouse and keyboard controls, though a controller preset is available in the menu. An options menu is also provided with which to tweak exactly how targeting works — find what works for you and your playstyle!

==== Locations ====
===== [https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2034 Additional Stash Locations] =====
'''Author:''' DJ_Kovrik<br>
'''Version:''' 1.32<br>
'''Mod Notes:''' Adds a few new stash locations as well as relocates some of the existing ones (in Crow's Perch and Kaer Trolde).

=== Texture Mod Merging ===
There is a hard limit of texture mods that can be loaded by the game at any one time. In order to bring the texture mod count down, some of these must be merged. In order to do this, we will use the official ''The Witcher 3 Modkit'' along with a third party tool called ''Witcher 3 Mod Merger''. Setup a working area with the following folder structure, this working areas path should contain no spaces:<br>
''TW3ModMerging''
* ''Cooked''
* ''Packed''
* ''Uncooked''
Perform the following to configure ''Witcher 3 Mod Merger'':
Execute ''Witcher 3 Mod Merger''. The "W3 Mod Merger Settings" dialog should be presented.
Adjacent to the text box for ''path to wcc_lite:'' click [...] and select the ''wcc_lite.exe'' file inside ''<The Witcher 3 Modkit>/bin/x64'' and click [Open].
Adjacent to ''Working Files>Uncooked'' click [...] and select the ''TW3ModMerging/Uncooked'' folder created earlier and click [Select Folder].
Adjacent to ''Working Files>Cooked'' click [...] and select the ''TW3ModMerging/Cooked'' folder created earlier and click [Select Folder].
Adjacent to ''Working Files>Packed'' click [...] and select the ''TW3ModMerging/Packed'' folder created earlier and click [Select Folder].
Close the settings dialog by clicking [OK].
Select the following mod folders by placing a checkbox next to them:
* modBeautifulRocksLight
* modCiriLoreFriendlyFull
* modCiriPortrait
* modGeraltHWwhiteBeard
* modGerskinHoS
* modGerSkinNoHair
* modNoDirtyLensEffect
* modNoScreenWaterDrops
* modOrnamentedKnife
* modWitchereye
Click [Merge].
Once the process completes, exit ''Witcher 3 Mod Merger'' by closing the window.
{{AlertSmall‏‎|type=notice|text=If you need to uninstall or update one of the mods in the merge, click [Unmerge All] before uninstalling said mod.}}

=== Post Install INI Tweaks ===
=== Conflict Resolution ===
Some mods installed during the previous section require ini tweaks to be used for proper operation.
Various mods will conflict with each other in one way or another, when this happens it must be dealt with. This is essential for bug free game play.
  TBD
==== Mod Asset Conflicts ====
Conflicts between identically named mesh and texture files are resolved by the game engine in alphabetical order by default. To override this behavior, a ''mods.settings'' text file must be created in the ''<My Documents>/The Witcher 3'' folder. The format of this file is easy to follow:
<blockquote>
[mod<ModName>]<br>
Enabled=1 or 0 (Yes or No)<br>
Priority=# (0 - 9999, Mods With Lower Priority Win)
</blockquote>
For the purposes of this guide, copy and paste the following text into the file:
<blockquote>
[mod0000_MergedFiles]<br>
Enabled=1<br>
Priority=0<br>
<br>
[modGeraltChestHair]<br>
Enabled=1<br>
Priority=1<br>

<br>
[modGhostMode]<br>
Enabled=1<br>
Priority=3<br>
<br>
[modTheAard]<br>
Enabled=1<br>
Priority=4
</blockquote>

==== Script Merger ====
Perform the following:
Run ''Witcher 3 Script Merger''.
Click the [...] adjacent to the "Witcher 3 Directory" text box.
Navigate to the ''Witcher 3'' main directory and click [Ok].
A list of conflicting scripts, xml files, etc. will appear in the left pane.
Select the "Scripts" check box and select [Create X Selected Merges].
If a merge has a conflict, a GUI will open asking you to solve each conflict. The following section(s) will show how to resolve any known script merges that require action on the users part. Note that some non-script based mod conflicts are not able to be merged, however the ''mods.settings'' file created in the previous section will affect how they are displayed in the tool. Unless otherwise specified, these conflicts are known and can be ignored.

=== Post Install Configuration Tweaks ===
Some mods installed during the previous section require in-game settings tweaks for intended operation.
{{AlertSmall‏‎|type=notice|text=During the first startup of the game post-modding, the changed scripts will automatically be compiled. Bugs have been observed when playing after a script compilation. Therefore, after the compilation is finished, exit the game and restart before continuing.}}

=== Conflict Resolution ===
=== Start Playing ===
Various mods will conflict with each other in one way or another, when this happens it must be dealt with. This is essential for bug free gameplay.
Enjoy your time playing ''The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt''. Remember to take your time as you only get to experience the game for the first time once. Play the game on ''Death March'' difficulty to get the full ''Witcher'' experience... anything less would be uncivilized. It is also recommended to switch the ''Gwent Difficulty Level'' to ''Hard'' after the game has allowed you to take control via the ''Options > Gameplay'' menu.

* Not all merchants are created equal, pay attention to the relative values of items at different types of merchants. Just because they will buy an item, doesn't mean they pay top coin.
* When finding a monster contract, visit the initial quest giver even if the quest is above your level. Haggling for more gold always results in a higher final payment even if you settle for the bottom of the haggle bar.

==== Gameplay ====
* Due to a soft conflict between ''Alternate Lightsource Interaction'' and ''Preparations'' you must equip the ''Aard'' sign to use any currently ignited fire sources or equip the ''Igni'' sign to use any ignitable fire sources for meditation.
* In some cases the full version of the ''All Quest Objectives On Map'' mod may add a pin for a merchant that already has one. This usually happens for the merchants that are involved in quests and change location. This happens rarely and duplicate / incorrect pins can be removed by double-clicking them without problems.

Introduction and Summary[edit | edit source]

W3R: The Wild Hunt Revisited is a mod guide designed to keep up with the ever changing Witcher 3 mod landscape. Key tenets of this mod guide include:

  • Increased Immersion and Realism including but not limited to blood/gore, intense combat, nudity/sex, realistic needs, and survival.
  • Maintained Lore Friendliness meaning remaining true to the majority of The Witcher lore - but not in a purist sense - some liberties will be taken.
  • Maintained Stability with Maximum Functionality including conflict resolution, mod ordering, and more.

Author's Development System[edit | edit source]

The system used for the creation of this guide is as follows:

Processor: Intel Core i5 3570k @ 4.4 Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600
Video Card: AORUS GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11G
Hard Drive (OS): Samsung 840 PRO 256GB SSD
Hard Drive (Games): Samsung 840 PRO 256GB SSD
Hard Drive (Data Backup): Western Digital Black 500GB 7200RPM

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

Spectacular achievement is always preceded by unspectacular preparation. --Robert H. Schuller

To use this guide to it's fullest extent, the following software must be installed and configured as specified.

Official CD Projekt RED Content[edit | edit source]

The Witcher 3 Modkit must be installed in a path with no spaces or bugs using the tools may occur.

Tools[edit | edit source]

The function of this tool is to open archives manually when not using other tools as it handles most modern compression schemes and is free to use.

ModKitchen should be installed in a path with no spaces or bugs using the tools may occur.
The function of this tool is to provide a wrapper for the command line functions of The Witcher 3 Modkit.

The function of this tool is to install the main mod folder and apply found DLCs, keybindings, and xmls automatically.

Witcher 3 Mod Merger should be installed in a path with no spaces or bugs using the tools may occur.
The function of this tool is to merge texture and mesh mods to avoid the texture mod limit.

The function of this tool is to check the mods folder for conflicts and displays them in the UI. If the conflict is a .ws script or .xml file inside a .bundle package, then this tool can merge the different versions.

All Journeys Begin With The First Step...[edit | edit source]

The first step, my son, which one makes in the world, is the one on which depends the rest of our days. --Voltaire

The road of the White Wolf begins slowly yet with purposeful resolve.

Configure The Witcher 3[edit | edit source]

Upon downloading The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt there are no settings files pre-generated. Thus, it is imperative to run the game once to generate the initial set of configuration files and do basic setup.

Start The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt directly or via the game manager of your choice (GOG Galaxy / Steam).
Navigate to Options > Gameplay.
Set Manual sword draw/aheathing to On.
Set Turn off Witcher Senses "fish-eye" Effect to On.
Set Movement Response to Alternative.
Navigate to Options > Video > HUD Configuration.
Set HUD Size to Small.
Navigate to Options > Video > PostProcessing.
Click High preset button.
Set Sharpening to Low.
Set Ambient Occlusion to HBAO+.
Navigate to Options > Video > Graphics.
Click Ultra preset button.
Set Vertical Sync to Off.
Set Maximum Frames Per Second to Unlimited.
Set NVIDIA Hairworks AA to 2.
Set Foliage Visibility to High.
Set Shadows to High.
Set Hardware Cursor to On.
Info-Logo.png
NOTE:
The video settings provided assume a PC similar to the authors system. Some settings may need to be adjusted to maintain FPS based on available hardware.

(Optional) Experienced players may also want to set the following:

Navigate to Options > Gameplay.
Set On-Screen Tutorials to Off.

After all settings have been set:

Exit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

These settings have now been saved into the configuration files. These settings have accomplished the following:

  • Setup the user interface for minimal obstruction and maximum responsiveness.
  • Setup the graphics for maximum fidelity while maintaining good fps.

Configure Graphics Driver[edit | edit source]

Info-Logo.png
NOTE:
This section of the guide is Nvidia specific. It is suggested that users of other video cards attempt to mimic these settings using equivalent software.

With the base game setup completed, it is time to begin tweaking the graphics. Modern graphics drivers can be used to enhance a games built in functionality and add additional features. Perform the following:

Open Nvidia Control Panel and navigate to the Mange 3D Settings page.
Click on the Program Settings tab.
In the top drop down box, select The Witcher 3 (witcher3.exe).
In the window below, set the following:
 Anisotropic filtering: 16x
 Antialiasing - Gamma correction: Off
 Maximum pre-rendered frames: 1
 Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimisation: Off
 Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Clamp
 Texture filtering - Quality: High quality
 Texture filtering - Trilinear optimisation: Off
 Vertical Sync: On
Close Nvidia Control Panel.

These changes have accomplished the following:

  • High quality anisotropic filtering will now be provided by the driver improving image quality.
  • Vertical Sync will prevent screen tearing.

ReShade Graphics Modification[edit | edit source]

Crosire's ReShade is an advanced, fully generic post-processing injector for games or alike. Imagine your favorite game with ambient occlusion, real high quality bokeh depth of field, color correction and more ... ReShade provides a generic way to access both color and depth information (latter is automatically disabled during multiplayer to prevent exploitation) and all the tools to make it happen.

TBD

Initial Configuration Tweaks[edit | edit source]

The following tweaks aim to increase gameplay and visuals in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by tweaking the game engine to provide a better than vanilla experience. If a section exists, simply add the tweak to the bottom of that section or update existing parameter if present. If a section does not exist, add it at the bottom of the file.

General.ini[edit | edit source]

This file can be found in the <The Witcher 3>/bin/config/base folder.

Enable Debug Console Tweak[edit | edit source]

This tweak enables the debug console that can be used in conjunction with some mods.

[General]
DBGConsoleOn=true

PlatformGameplay.ini[edit | edit source]

This file can be found in the <The Witcher 3>/bin/config/platform/pc folder.

Movement Responsiveness Tweak[edit | edit source]

This tweak will increase the movement responsiveness of the player.

[Gameplay]
LeftStickSensitivity=1.0

user.settings[edit | edit source]

This file can be found in the <My Documents>/The Witcher 3 folder.

Disable Anistropic Filtering Tweak[edit | edit source]

This tweak will disable the games internal Anistropic Filtering as it is now being handled by the driver.

[Rendering]
MaxTextureAnizotropy=0

High Quality Mipmaps Tweak[edit | edit source]

This tweak will force the game to use much higher quality mip textures, improving the visual fidelity of the game at little to no performance cost.

[Streaming/Textures]
UseMipRefiner=true

HUD Position Tweak[edit | edit source]

This tweak fixes the position of HUD elements at aspect ratios higher than 16:9.

  • For 16:10 aspect ratio:

[Hidden]
uiVerticalFrameScale=1.1253

  • For 21:9 aspect ratio (not needed for GOTY edition):

[Hidden]
uiHorizontalFrameScale=1.3125

Memory Budget Tweak[edit | edit source]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has a texture memory budget that is set too low for the PC version of the game. Increasing it smooths out the frame rate by decreasing on-the-fly loads.

[Rendering]
TextureMemoryBudget=half your GPUs VRAM (i.e. 1024 for 2GB GPUs)

Shadow Occlusion Culling Tweak[edit | edit source]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt makes heavy use of occlusion culling to improve performance but sometimes this leads to visual bugs such as shadows popping in very close to Geralt or sunlight streaming through windows that disappears while moving in-doors. This tweak alleviates some of these issues.

  • Note: The in-game "Shadow Quality" slider will reset to "Low". This is expected and the game will use the tweaked values appropriately as long as the slider is not moved in game.

[Rendering]
CascadeShadowDistanceScale0=1.5
CascadeShadowDistanceScale1=3
CascadeShadowDistanceScale2=2.5
CascadeShadowDistanceScale3=2

Alternatively, for even higher fidelity at higher performance cost:

[Rendering]
CascadeShadowDistanceScale0=4
CascadeShadowDistanceScale1=4
CascadeShadowDistanceScale2=3
CascadeShadowDistanceScale3=2
CascadeShadowQuality=4

Shadow Performance Tweak[edit | edit source]

This tweak can improve performance without a significant loss in visuals.

[Rendering]
CascadeShadowmapSize=2048

Shadow Pop-In Tweak[edit | edit source]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has some issues with shadow pop-in on character held objects such as boxes, clothing, and weapons. This tweak makes the distance where this pop-in occurs to be further away from the player.

[Rendering]
CharacterShadowsFallbackDistance=40

The White Wolf Comes[edit | edit source]

Ooh a man - nay - a wolf, gray, but not old. 'Tis he the pellar awaits. "They shall come whose stench is rape and death, but the wolf shall disperse them. The White Wolf." --The Pellar

With the start of the journey complete, the Butcher of Blaviken strides strongly into the hunt for his adopted daughter Ciri. The important points to remember when installing mods are as follows:

  • Mods should be installed using the Witcher 3 Mod Manager for use by the game. For reference, each mod is installed with its own folder prefixed with "mod" and generally consist of bundles for textures or .ws files for script changes. Mods are loaded in alphabetical order and use the first instance of each file found.
  • Mods are sorted into categories; however, the order of installation does not affect the final result.
  • The recommended option/texture size will be specified next to the version number when required.
  • The recommended configuration changes and file(s) to edit will be specified directly after the mod notes.
  • Backup a copy of the original mod archives in case a mod is ever taken down.

Base Mod[edit | edit source]

This first mod is essential to have a smooth modding experience with scripts.

Unification patch for 1.31 and 1.31GOTY[edit | edit source]

Author: wghost81
Version: 1.1
Special Installation: Do NOT use Witcher 3 Mod Manager. Instead, extract the content and Mods folder within the archive to the base game folder, overwrite all when prompted.
Mod Notes: The patch contains only official 1.31 and 1.31 GOG GOTY scripts and only official fixes which are available to GOTY users.

Bug Fixes[edit | edit source]

This section is reserved for bug fix mods.

Alternate Aard Water Ripple Fix[edit | edit source]

Author: erxv
Version: 1.0
Mod Notes: Fixes the ripple effect on the water that is absent when using alternate aard.

Better Torches[edit | edit source]

Author: Syynx
Version: 1.31
Mod Notes: This mod allows the player to climb, fight, and ride a horse without putting the torch away. A novel concept.

Fix for Avalach Lab Music[edit | edit source]

Author: Technik
Version: 1.0
Mod Notes: Fixes music that was bugged due to one of the official patches.

Horse DLC Equipment Fix[edit | edit source]

Author: Rivianbleidd
Version: 1.0
Mod Notes: This mod fixes some mesh visibility issues with the DLC horse equipment. The LOD and visibility settings were way more conservative than the non-DLC equipment.

Nitpicker's Patch[edit | edit source]

Author: chuckcash
Version: 1.12
Mod Notes: Fixes some lingering visual bugs.

No More Rolling Down Stairs[edit | edit source]

Author: KCS
Version: 1.4
Mod Notes: In the vanilla game, walking down some steep stairs would send Geralt tumbling. Now instead of rolling down the stairs, Geralt will do a quick little stutter step and keep on moving.

TW3 Gameplay Tweaks[edit | edit source]

Author: wghost81
Version: 1.0 (modGallop + modJumpSprint + modNoForcedAltMovement + modNoForcedTutorial + modNoStartupMovies)
Mod Notes: This is a collection of frequently used gameplay tweaks specifically created to be compatible with Unification Patch. Each tweak does exactly one thing and is made as small and simple as possible to ensure compatibility with other tweaks and mods.

Reshaping The User Interface[edit | edit source]

This section is dedicated to mods that affect the user experience in controlling Geralt of Rivia on his adventures throughout The Continent.

The Camera[edit | edit source]

This sub-section is dedicated to mods that alter the camera effects and position.

No Dirty Lens Effect[edit | edit source]

Author: RumenWest
Version: 1.0
Mod Notes: This mod removes the dirty lens camera effect when looking at a bright light source.

Remove Screen Water Droplets Effect[edit | edit source]

Author: FPSRazR
Version: 1.1
Mod Notes: This mod removes the water droplets camera effect during rain.

Toxicity - Clean Face and Screen[edit | edit source]

Author: DJ_Kovrik

This sub-section is dedicated to mods that improve the hud, interactions with the world, and the menu system.

Alternate Lightsources Interaction[edit | edit source]

Author: DJ_Kovrik
Version: 1.31
Mod Notes: This mod hides the prompts for all in game light sources unless you have the Aard (Extinguish) or Igni (Ignite) sign selected.

AutoLoot Configurable All-In-One[edit | edit source]

Author: JupiterTheGod / AeroHD
Version: 3.0.5
Mod Notes: This mod allows the player to loot without having to click loot all on every container or plant.

Reshaping The Game[edit | edit source]

This section is dedicated to mods that affect the gameplay of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Base Overhaul[edit | edit source]

Ghost Mode[edit | edit source]

Author: wghost81
Version: 2.7.1
Mod Notes: Ghost Mode is an overhaul mod which changes almost every aspect of gameplay: from combat and damage to loot and economy.

Alchemy[edit | edit source]

Preparations[edit | edit source]

Author: wghost81
Version: 6.1
Mod Notes: General idea of the mod is to turn meditation into more meaningful process: it's no longer used to simply skip time and auto-refill your potions and bombs, you need meditation to manage your character skills, equipment and alchemy.

Combat[edit | edit source]

Enhanced Targetting for UPatch[edit | edit source]

Author: Mpstark
Version: 3.1
Mod Notes: The Witcher 3's automatic targeting fails to impress, especially in combination with the "softlock" mechanism — targets can change wildly for seemingly no particular reason, during a dodge, for example, which can lead to violent (and frustrating!) deaths from being locked in an animation in a completely unintended direction. This mod replaces Witcher 3's automatic targeting with one that is much more consistent, particularly for mouse and keyboard controls, though a controller preset is available in the menu. An options menu is also provided with which to tweak exactly how targeting works — find what works for you and your playstyle!

Locations[edit | edit source]

Additional Stash Locations[edit | edit source]

Author: DJ_Kovrik
Version: 1.32
Mod Notes: Adds a few new stash locations as well as relocates some of the existing ones (in Crow's Perch and Kaer Trolde).

All Good Things Must Come To An End[edit | edit source]

We come to the last leg of the journey, the road was long and hard but the end worth it.

Texture Mod Merging[edit | edit source]

There is a hard limit of texture mods that can be loaded by the game at any one time. In order to bring the texture mod count down, some of these must be merged. In order to do this, we will use the official The Witcher 3 Modkit along with a third party tool called Witcher 3 Mod Merger. Setup a working area with the following folder structure, this working areas path should contain no spaces:
TW3ModMerging

  • Cooked
  • Packed
  • Uncooked

Perform the following to configure Witcher 3 Mod Merger:

Execute Witcher 3 Mod Merger. The "W3 Mod Merger Settings" dialog should be presented.
Adjacent to the text box for path to wcc_lite: click [...] and select the wcc_lite.exe file inside <The Witcher 3 Modkit>/bin/x64 and click [Open].
Adjacent to Working Files>Uncooked click [...] and select the TW3ModMerging/Uncooked folder created earlier and click [Select Folder].
Adjacent to Working Files>Cooked click [...] and select the TW3ModMerging/Cooked folder created earlier and click [Select Folder].
Adjacent to Working Files>Packed click [...] and select the TW3ModMerging/Packed folder created earlier and click [Select Folder].
Close the settings dialog by clicking [OK].
Select the following mod folders by placing a checkbox next to them:
* modBeautifulRocksLight
* modCiriLoreFriendlyFull
* modCiriPortrait
* modGeraltHWwhiteBeard
* modGerskinHoS
* modGerSkinNoHair
* modNoDirtyLensEffect
* modNoScreenWaterDrops
* modOrnamentedKnife
* modWitchereye
Click [Merge].
Once the process completes, exit Witcher 3 Mod Merger by closing the window.

NOTE:
If you need to uninstall or update one of the mods in the merge, click [Unmerge All] before uninstalling said mod.

Conflict Resolution[edit | edit source]

Various mods will conflict with each other in one way or another, when this happens it must be dealt with. This is essential for bug free game play.

Mod Asset Conflicts[edit | edit source]

Conflicts between identically named mesh and texture files are resolved by the game engine in alphabetical order by default. To override this behavior, a mods.settings text file must be created in the <My Documents>/The Witcher 3 folder. The format of this file is easy to follow:

[mod<ModName>]
Enabled=1 or 0 (Yes or No)
Priority=# (0 - 9999, Mods With Lower Priority Win)

For the purposes of this guide, copy and paste the following text into the file:

[mod0000_MergedFiles]
Enabled=1
Priority=0

[modGeraltChestHair]
Enabled=1
Priority=1

[mod0000_MergedPack]
Enabled=1
Priority=2

[modGhostMode]
Enabled=1
Priority=3

[modTheAard]
Enabled=1
Priority=4

Script Merger[edit | edit source]

Perform the following:

Run Witcher 3 Script Merger.
Click the [...] adjacent to the "Witcher 3 Directory" text box.
Navigate to the Witcher 3 main directory and click [Ok].

Note that some non-script based mod conflicts are not able to be merged, however the mods.settings file created in the previous section will affect how they are displayed in the tool. Unless otherwise specified, these conflicts are known and can be ignored.

scripts/game/gui/menus/journalQuestMenu.ws[edit | edit source]

The mods Sort Everything and Unread Descriptions have minor script conflicts and need user intervention to be merged.

  • Conflict 1: Select Line(s) from C then B (Order Important)
scripts/game/player/playerWitcher.ws[edit | edit source]

The mods AutoLoot Configurable All-In-One and Preparations have minor script conflicts and need user intervention to be merged.

  • Conflict 1: Select Line(s) From C then B (Order Important)

Post Install Configuration Tweaks[edit | edit source]

Some mods installed during the previous section require in-game settings tweaks for intended operation.

NOTE:
During the first startup of the game post-modding, the changed scripts will automatically be compiled. Bugs have been observed when playing after a script compilation. Therefore, after the compilation is finished, exit the game and restart before continuing.

In Game Configuration[edit | edit source]

Brutal Blood[edit | edit source]

Brutal Blood must be enabled in game.

Start The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt directly or via the game manager of your choice (GOG Galaxy / Steam).

Start Playing[edit | edit source]

Enjoy your time playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Remember to take your time as you only get to experience the game for the first time once. Play the game on Death March difficulty to get the full Witcher experience... anything less would be uncivilized. It is also recommended to switch the Gwent Difficulty Level to Hard after the game has allowed you to take control via the Options > Gameplay menu.

Tips, Known Issues, and Troubleshooting[edit | edit source]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not a bug free experience and is being patched often. Invariably, issues are going to occur in any adventure on The Continent. That said, this section will list any known issues and some troubleshooting tips any good Witcher should know.

Tips[edit | edit source]

  • Not all merchants are created equal, pay attention to the relative values of items at different types of merchants. Just because they will buy an item, doesn't mean they pay top coin.
  • When finding a monster contract, visit the initial quest giver even if the quest is above your level. Haggling for more gold always results in a higher final payment even if you settle for the bottom of the haggle bar.

Known Issues[edit | edit source]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

  • Due to a soft conflict between Alternate Lightsource Interaction and Preparations you must equip the Aard sign to use any currently ignited fire sources or equip the Igni sign to use any ignitable fire sources for meditation.
  • In some cases the full version of the All Quest Objectives On Map mod may add a pin for a merchant that already has one. This usually happens for the merchants that are involved in quests and change location. This happens rarely and duplicate / incorrect pins can be removed by double-clicking them without problems.

Visuals[edit | edit source]

  • None

Troubleshooting[edit | edit source]

Low FPS / Stutter[edit | edit source]

  • Nvidia Hairworks takes a lot of CPU and graphics horsepower to run. If experiencing FPS drops that affect your gameplay, try lowering the quality setting. If performance does not improve enough to make a difference, disable it and the various hairworks mods accordingly. The hairworks effects are quite good, so do so as a last resort.
