Preface

Catalyst Control Center (CCC) only partially augments Skyrim graphics as dictated by SkyrimPrefs.ini. The CCC Anti-Aliasing Mode/Samples settings have no impact on Skyrim AA, so AA must be set in the INI (4x recommended). Setting AA in CCC does not help, but FPS can be impacted if Samples are set higher than the INI, so best to leave this all to the application. However, CCC Anti-Aliasing Method DOES impact Skyrim AA, and so do all other settings under Anti-Aliasing and Texture Filtering.

General

  1. Open Catalyst Control Center, and click on the [Preferences] button in the upper right. Select Advanced View.
  2. Under the Gaming section on the left select Gaming > 3D Application Settings.
    • Set [Tessellation Mode] to AMD Optimized
    • Set Enable Surface Format Optimization to "On", if it's not already.
    • Set [Wait for vertical refresh] to On, unless application specifies
    • Make sure that [Anti-Aliasing Mode] and [Anti-Aliasing Samples] are set to Use application settings
  3. (optional) Add "skse_loader.exe" to be associated with as an application-specific profile:
    • Click [+ Add] in the left column
    • Navigate to skyrim/ and select "skse_loader.exe" to associate these settings with Skyrim ("TESV.exe" should be used if that is the executable used to launch Skyrim).

Profile

  1. Right-click on any open space on the desktop and click on AMD Catalyst Control Center.
  2. Look to the left side of the newly opened window and under the "Gaming" tab, click 3D Application Settings.
  3. Click on the [Add] button in the right pane. A browse file window should open.
  4. Locate and select "TESV.exe" within your "skyrim\" folder and click [Open]. A warning will pop up asking "Do you want to override the pre-defined profile?" Click [Yes] then [OK].
  5. Select the "TESV.exe" profile that appeared below the "Add" button and change all settings to match the following:
    Anti-Aliasing
    • Anti-Aliasing Mode: Override application settings
    • Anti-Aliasing Samples: 4x
    • Filter: Standard
    • Anti-Aliasing Method: Supersampling (NOTE: Set to Multisampling if FPS drop is a problem)
    • Morphological Filtering: Off
    Texture Filtering
    • Anisotropic Filtering Mode: Override application settings
    • Anisotropic Filtering Level: 16x
    • Texture Filtering Quality:High quality
    • Surface Format Optimization: On
    Frame Rate Control
    • Wait for Vertical Refresh: Off, unless application specifies
    • OpenGL Triple Buffering: Off
    Tessellation
    • Tessellation Mode: AMD optimized
    • Maximum Tessellation Level: AMD optimized
  6. Click [Save] in the lower right hand corner. Another warning will pop up asking "Do you want to overwrite the existing profile? TESV.exe". Click [Yes] then [OK].
