Nehrim Total Conversion FAQ[edit | edit source]

Source: SureAI Homepage

  • This FAQ will be extended as the modding guide progresses.

What is Nehrim?[edit | edit source]

"Nehrim - At Fate´s Edge" is a total conversion offering an extensive main quest and various sidequests mounting to over 50 hours of gameplay, even more depending your play style. Nehrim's background story will lead you through a raging war daring fate in a rather tragic and extraordinary way.

The conversion does that by partially replacing Oblivion's data with its own but using the game-engine. The Landscape has been shaped entirely by hand opposed to the mostly generated one of Oblivion, and thus offering more variety.

What are the requirements?[edit | edit source]

You do need the original Oblivion game installed. You do not need any of the DLC's. As this is a Nehrim modding guide you also want a decent computer setup similar to the requirements of Complete Oblivion Guide WIP.

Why is everything in German?[edit | edit source]

Nehrim was developed for the German version of Oblivion and translation was only done for subtitles. Hence, you will need to enable the subtitles.

Can I play Nehrim with my Oblivion Character?[edit | edit source]

You can't. As said, Nehrim is a new game built on the Oblivion game-engine and you will need to start out with a new character. Though there is no need to delete your gamesaves from Oblivion, Nehrim's saves will be simply stored adjacent to your existing gamesaves.

How is Nehrim's gameplay different to Oblivion?[edit | edit source]

You will find Nehrim based on experience points by killing monsters and more so by finishing quests. At each level up you will get 'learning points' that can be traded for skills at a teacher.

Weapons, armors and spells have been specifically designed for Nehrim. As it is, the most powerful versions are not available at merchants but rather found in the depths of dungeons or rewarded for successfully finished quests. Furthermore you will not find a bandit or else with valuable armor and weapons neither a full equipment in for example a chest somewhere in a dungeon. You will have to explore and do quests in order to gain a complete set. Also, gear of different value is region-related but not exclusively. This all encourages the player to dive in to dungeons, explore and do the quests offered.

No fast-travel system is implemented: the player rather rides his horse or travels afoot. However, there is a teleport system in place in addition to Morrowind's mark and return spells. This guide also plans to implement a modification that expands extensively but not overpowered on the Nehrim's travel system.

No guilds are implemented as they are of no consequence for Nehrim.

Can I use the modifications I've installed for Oblivion?[edit | edit source]

Generally, no. Though, some texture replacers like Qarl's and a few other mods are compatible. OBSE and some of the OBSE plugins as well.

So I do need a fresh installation of Oblivion?[edit | edit source]

At his point of development of the guide, yes. You do not need to delete your savegame folder but reverse Oblivion to Vanilla in order to setup Nehrim. Exception is if you are using Mod Organizer, though, at this point I am still probing with OBSE plugins.

What type of modifications will be used in the guide?[edit | edit source]

It is planned to enhance visuals and gameplay features similar but not as extensive in any way as the Complete Oblivion Guide WIP provides, and without a modular setup. Rather in form of a recommended and quite straight forward setup for everyone. Some modifications are only available for the German version, some only for the English version.

Will there be a German version of the Nehrim Total Conversion guide?[edit | edit source]

I'll might do that and it might differs from the English version since there are different and more modifications available.
