Project:Skyrim Weather Reference/Weather Compares
From Step Mods | Change The Game
All screenshots were captured as JPGs (for size and page load) with a Step SkyrimSE Guide mod list using FPS Monitor. Why a mod list and not vanilla? Vanilla is great for development, however few users actually run a fully vanilla setup. Thus, our mod list was used to replicate how weathers would look with mods installed. The most notable of these mods in the shots will be:
- Cathedral Landscapes
- Aspens Ablaze (2D LOD)
- Enhanced Vanilla Trees (3D Hybrid LOD)
- Majestic Mountains
- Realistic Water Two
Some things to note about these compares:
- No custom weathers are included; only vanilla.
- Weathers with an
_A
suffix have auroras at night. - Sun/Glare sizes are set to 200/282, per the Step Guide; however, if a weather includes these they were allowed to overwrite Step.
- Vanilla
-
- The Vanilla shot is without any Lighting and Weather (L&W) mods from the Guide active, besides EVLaS. This provides vanilla lighting and weathers.
- Cathedral Weathers
-
- The Cathedral Weathers shot is with all L&W mods active with Cathedral Weathers.
- CW changes the ToD so to get a 1:1 compare, it's ToD was reverted to vanilla.
- CW adds auroras and/or precipitation to several weathers that aren't present in vanilla. These shots are not mismatched, they are correct.
- The Cathedral Weathers shot is with all L&W mods active with Cathedral Weathers.
- RAID Weathers
-
- The RAID Weathers shot is with all L&W mods active with RAID Weathers.
- The RAID Weather LSat shot is with all L&W mods active with RAID Weathers + Lower Saturation Option.
- The RAID Weather LSat V2 shot is with all L&W mods active with RAID Weathers V2 + Lower Saturation Option.
- Since this would be the option Step is interested in, it was the only option provided for v2. The Guide and mods have advanced since the original shots, therefore there are some changes present: Majestic Mountains v4, Red Mountain plume, some lighting differences on some LODs, etc.
- RAID provides it's own sky textures and sun sizes. These were kept for the RAID shots, thus overwriting Step's selections.
- Screenshot times of day (ToD)
ToD | Time |
---|---|
Day | 01:00 PM - 01:30 PM |
Sunset | 06:00 PM - 06:30 PM |
Night | 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM |
- Default sunrise/sunset ToD for weather mods
Weather Mod | Sunrise Begin/End | Sunset Begin/End |
---|---|---|
Vanilla | 05:30 AM - 10:00 AM | 04:00 PM - 08:30 PM |
Cathedral Weathers | 05:00 AM - 09:00 AM | 05:00 PM - 09:00 PM |
RAID Weathers | 05:30 AM - 10:00 AM | 04:00 PM - 09:30 PM |
NOTE
All weathers were forced in place. Generally, we'd rather have shots from naturally occurring weathers in the game and all vanilla shots are such. However, more often than not when loading a save for a specific weather with anything other than vanilla, the weather would transition on load. Therefore, once the pre-saved locations were loaded for each shot the weather was forced and the shot taken. No weathers were forced outside their set regions (vanilla).
