Introduction[edit | edit source]

Let us face it: Fallout: New Vegas just does not run as well as we might like. While the game has plenty to offer, a consistent and stable experience is not always one of them. The game has been out for a number of years now and will not be patched or updated again. Fortunately, there have been a number of user made mods that have been developed over the years to help us achieve a stable and more enjoyable game. These mods along with an optimized game play setup will allow you to run Fallout: New Vegas with acceptable visuals at a reasonable frame rate. What this guide aims to do is show beginners how to optimize their New Vegas game before they start modding so they can really hit the ground running. However, this does not mean that this guide is just for beginners. This guide is being written with the hopes that many players will be able to take advantage of the tips and tricks presented in this guide; along with the extensive F.A.Q. provided at the end for troubleshooting. What This Guide is and What it is Not[edit | edit source]

While the things suggested in this guide have been thoroughly tested and examined, this is not a "fix-all-solution" to every problem you may have with the game. What this is however, is a collection of tweaks, suggestions, and mods that have been put together to give you the best chance of having a stable game. At no point will this guide ask you to do anything that will cause physical damage to your hardware, nor will it ask you to do anything that will cause damage to your game, operating system, or files. Remember: you know your system better than this guide does; if you feel uncomfortable doing something, then please do not do it. This guide is also not just a small collection of .INI tweaks (which may or may not do anything). This is a complete optimization guide. Meaning it will guide you from when you start the game launcher for the first time, all the way up to when you are ready to begin installing mods for your game. So without further ado, let us begin.

A Quick Note: One thing you may have noticed at this point is that there is not a lot of rambling in this guide. This is done intentionally. This guide is meant to be as short as possible so that you can get to modding and playing your game. This guide will be very straight and to the point.
