:This last question is more important for the future than now. It will determine the "upgrade-ability" of your system when you decide to do so. Right now you may only be planning to purchase DDR2 memory or a PCIe 2.1 video card; however, in the future you may want to upgrade those to current standards which are DD3 and PCIe 3.0. A good strategy is to plan the purchase of a motherboard which will sustain your upgrading needs for the next three to five years. Thus, keep that last question above in mind when you are comparing motherboards. | :This last question is more important for the future than now. The two other items to take note of are chipsets and form factors. Chipsets are not as important with Intel as they are with AMD. Intel has merged a lot of the chipset functions into their processors. AMD chipsets; however, are still mainly on the motherboard. At the time of this writing for Intel the Z77 chipset is the best. For AMD, 9xx series are currently the best. Please note that PCIe 3.0 support is not mainstream at the time of this writing. | |||
Most of the recommended upgrades require certain specs on your mother board. Besides those specific specs, the chipsets are the defining factors here: for AMD you want 900 series chipsets, on the Intel side Z77. | Most of the recommended upgrades require certain specs on your mother board.
