Can anyone suggest any viable alternatives to Nexus for hosting mods?

Respectful and open discourse on Nexus doesn't seem to be possible anymore.  I'm so tired of all the hate.  (Edit: removed the reference to specific insults.  After consideration, I feel bad for quoting them here; no one benefits from having this stuff repeated).

And, fyi, all these comments came from other mod authors (on the restricted Mod Authors forum) in response to what I felt was an attempt to respectfully, but strongly, voice my opinion over a mod author's right to control access to their own content.  This isn't coming from idiot users with only one or two posts, but from other established mod authors.

Now, I'm not taking these comments too personally.  I'm not looking for people to reassure me that those things aren't true.  I know they aren't true, and I've dealt with worse before, but honestly, why do I need to put up with this?  Why am I putting up with this?

I know the reason: because I want to continue to share my mods.  I love making mods, and I love sharing them.  I know there are a lot of people who really enjoy using my mods, and I want to keep providing my work to them.  Is there any way to do this without also having to constantly subject myself to the rabid hatred and disrespect that appears to be increasingly predominant on Nexus?  I don't want to go through Steam (though anymore I don't think the users there are any worse than those on Nexus) simply because I don't want to provide support for users trying to manage their mods through Steam's system.

This is supposed to be something I do for fun, and I don't see anything fun about the prevailing attitudes toward modders.  I truly enjoy a healthy, even heated debate, but I grew out of that type of childish name calling a long, long time ago, and I never have found it to be productive or particularly effective.  If that's the only format available for discussions on Nexus, even among other mod authors, then I need to be somewhere else.

I want to continue making my work available to those who have supported me, silently or otherwise, and I'm looking for any suggestions for other venues that might allow me to do continue to do this in a more productive environment.

well, you can have a mod topic on here or another forum and then host on another site.

I would use copy because there is no bandwidth limit.

As for an alternative nexus, I have no idea.

TES Alliance is the only one I can think of.

I'm sorry to hear this. The STEP team is discussing some ideas, behind the scenes, for you Mod Authors who what to leave the Nexus crowd behind. We have some good ideas going but one thing we wouldn't be able to do is host files. The bandwidth costs would be too high. We'll come out with something in a few days so I'll add your name to the list of authors to be contacted.

There is AFK Mods, ModDB, and I'm sure a few other smaller ventures but nothing as big as the Nexus. At least on Nexus you get moderation tools for your threads, the others you dont.

Great!  I look forward to hearing your new ideas.  Yeah, I completely understand about the bandwidth costs, and I suspect there would be a lot of additional management costs as well if STEP started hosting many files.  With the rate that authors are currently being driven from Nexus maybe something new will crop up to fill that need.

I'll take a look at the mentioned sited.  I'm not very familiar with TES Alliance or ModDB and don't really know how well they're run or the ruling attitudes there.  I really think that Nexus is run rather well, particularly for the size of the site and the number of users it has, but the moderators can't be everywhere at once and obviously they don't have the power to reign in the hatred that is still being directed toward some people.

My other thought has been to just walk away.  Leave my files up but shut down my threads and discontinue any support.  However, that ends up putting the burden of support on sites like STEP, and I don't feel that's fair to you guys either.

I'd honestly say that anyone who uses the c word in a context like that is just flat out not even worth the time to read. That's just flat-out not on.

I definitely agree, and I certainly take it as more a reflection of the person commenting than having anything really to do with me.  But it seems like any discussion on Nexus quickly devolves to that sort of childishness.  That's not a productive environment for anyone but trolls.  There has to be better.  I mean STEP pretty much proves that it's possible for people, even on the internet, to be rational and respectful to one another.

Edit:  I'm not planning to do anything rash.  I just wanted to explore what options might be available.

Here's a pretty big list from a thread on LL. I'd go with Assimilation Lab, TESAlliance, or Dark Creations if it was me.

Most of those are hit or miss.

I'd stay away from ModDB if you don't want to be apart of a large site that might not have moderation ability of smaller places.

DarkOne was on a podcast and mentioned how the community has turned in on itself from this. He even mentioned the MA forumsbeing pretty awful right now. It's a good listen if you have 150 minutes to kill.

Brumbek was on it too and they both talk about the whole thing with a bit of perspective from the place of... hmm... what's the word? Adulthood.

If the big issue with the site is the unwarranted comments, you could always leave the hosting there and just disable comments, perhaps directing them here. That way users that actually want to get support or ask genuine questions might come, and those that 'just out for blood' will stay behind.

Respectful and open discourse on Nexus doesn't seem to be possible anymore.  I'm so tired of all the hate.  In the past few hours alone I've been called a childish, vengeful control freak, a passive aggressive little c*** with thin skin and an elitist attitude, who is no different than the entitled morons who started this s***storm to begin with.

That's the summary from a number of different comments aimed at me.

What the f*ck???? That's sick. I hope they get banned soon enough. Also the requirements to access said forum is obviously way too low.

This is probably the best solution, and I saw several people going this route. It makes gathering feedback a bit difficult, but it mostly solves the problem.

I think I saw someone open the comments only for a short while after an update is released to get feedback about possible bugs, but most of the time there's no way to post anything and that's fine.

Besides, you could always use us as guinea pigs.

Also, I think MediaFire has no bandwidth limit, so if you absolutely want to leave Nexus at some point, you could have the discussions here and host the files there.

Sheson has DynDOLod like this.

I think it's the best alternative.
