Question

I'm just curious, do people who use Steam Workshop to install their mods have endless problems? Given all the special steps for ordering, patching, etc in STEP, I was just wondering if Workshop is a total fiasco for Skyrim players.

I'd certainly say so - MO is a far superior option and using the workshop poses many problems for managing one's load order. I downloaded a few from the workshop and it's a messy business with little user control.

The title of this thread might also be construed as inflammatory. There is no adversorial mentality with STEP towards Steam.

Steam is just another means of distribution. There are hoops that need to jumped through to get things running in MO, but that doesn't mean if can't or shouldn't be done.

No inflammatory meaning implied by me at all. It's just that the learning curve for a proper STEP install is huge for a newb like me (just saw another thread where a guy mentioned he's 6 hours in with a long way to go), which made me wonder how this compares with Workshop (which I've never tried). I'm curious for those who have if Workshop is a disaster in terms of causing compatibility or stability issues, or if you get ~80% of the benefit with ~20% of the effort compared to STEP.

I'm not implying anything as to your motives, just wondering how a Google search will reveal this. I wanted it to be clear to anyone that finds it the position STEP holds.

Basically the Steam workshop is a content delivery system. There is no mod organization other than the game launcher.

I know MO does not integrate with it and as I have not used NMM in a while I am guessing it also does not integrate with the workshop. NMM may be able to manage the mods after the fact though.

In MO it is not recommended to have mods installed in the game data directory as you will miss out on all of the benefits MO has to offer.

I use steam worskhop but after I have downloaded the files I move the files and unsubscribe from the workshop. The way steam autoupdate things and that there is no mod organization make steam a death-trap for mod users.
