Can't equip shield

I've been playing for a few days.  My character is level 6.  I'm still in Riverwood.  I've been playing War Axe and Shield, but lately I've been unable to equip my shield.  It shows as being equipped in inventory, but I see it on my back and not on my arm.

 

Has anybody else run into this?  Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

Yeah I have but for the life of me I cant recall what it was and how I sorted it out...

 

First thing I'd do is check DSR.

Save, Reload fix it? Have you bathed recently?

Something fixed it.  I don't know what.  I sold the shield I was carrying, saved, reloaded, then acquired a new one.  Now it works again.  <shrugs>

This still occurs occasionally.  I think it has to do with switching between two weapons and a shield.  The two weapons will become split in my inventory (I'm using two war axes) rather than one listing with a "(2)" at the end.  The second is not favorited, and won't equip.  If I drop them, and pick them back up, they will show again as one line.  Then I can use them or the sheild.

 

At least I've figured out how to fix it.
