Immersive Horses is a lightweight overhaul mod which aims to improve on nearly every aspect of horses in Skyrim while remaining as true as possible to the original game. Immersive Horses also implements a follower system designed specifically for horses and it adds a range of new commands and options for horses far beyond the simple vanilla mount and dismount functionality.

OPTIONS

Initially, any horse you acquire will display a horse options menu when activated:

  • "Ride" or "Dismount" - Normal activation for mounting or dismounting the horse.
  • "Follow Me" or "Wait Here" - Command the horse to follow you or wait where it is.
  • "Talk/Search" - Talk to NPCs and search NPC corpses (while mounted).
  • "Open Inventory" - Access the horse's inventory and/or change the horse's saddle/barding/etc.
  • "Show Stats" - Display the horse's statistics: health, stamina, speed, etc.
  • "Dismiss" - Dismiss the horse so it returns to the stable or area where it was found.
  • "Manage Horses..." - More options for your horses (see options below).

If you have more than one horse, the "Manage Horses..." option will display a list of all of your horses. Choosing one from the list will display an extended menu for that horse with additional options:

  • "Whistle" - Whistle for the horse to come to you (requires Whistle).
  • "Change Aggression..." - Set the horse's aggression to: Unaggressive, Aggressive, Very Aggressive, Frenzied.
  • "Change Confidence..." - Set the horse's confidence to: Cowardly, Cautious, Average, Brave, Foolhardy.
  • "Rename..." - Change the horse's name.
  • "Swap Positions..." - Swap the horse's position with that of another horse in the list.

If you'd prefer not to see the horse options menu every time, then you can use the Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) to map certain options hotkeys instead. This includes various commands such as Whistle, Talk/Search, Open Inventory, and display of the horse list menu ([H] by default). The default actions for standing, sneaking, and mounted activation can also be changed in the MCM. There is also an option to protect all horses from death by any source except the player. Additionally, followers can ride any horses you own if you use a follower overhaul mod that supports it, such as Extensible Follower Framework. It is possible to own a total of 40 horses.

It's supposedly much more lightweight than Convenient Horses, which is fairly script heavy.

I've been using this for a while now and it seems to work really well.

It also uses the krittakitty's horse textures.

Sorry... can't control myself... just have to make this observation.

'Immersive'!!

How can you have an immersive horse? What is it with mod authors naming their mods with this adjective?

Rant ends here. Normally transmission will now commence. ::P:

Another alternative to Convenient Horses is Horse Commands. It's what I use. It does everything I expect from a horse mod and has a much lighter script load than Convenient Horses. Immersive Horses looks like a nice middle ground between the two: it has more features than Horse Commands but is lighter than Convenient Horses. Sometime I'll have to do a more thorough in-game comparison for myself.

I don't care about the name. This mod has been ridiculed unnecessarily because of it, particularly on Reddit and indirectly through a few new April fools "immersion" mods on the nexus. Is everybody going to continue mocking mods simply because they have the word "immersive" in the title? Outside of the Nexus comments section I've seen more criticism of the name than discussion of the actual mod. Even the new Immersive Compass mod has taken some criticism over its name, despite the name being very appropriate for it.

Has anybody been using Immersive Horses?

This mod is only getting better and better.

Version 1.1

Whistling for horses is now integrated into the main mod. The Whistle mod is no longer necessary.
Hotkeys are now unassigned by default and can be individually assigned or unassigned at any time.
The 'All Horses' submenu is now the 'Herd Menu' and the options were renamed as well.
The herd whistle/follow/wait commands no longer apply to dismissed horses.
Hotkeys were added for the herd commands, as was a shortcut to the herd menu.
Reduced horse gallop speed from 900 to 800, base health from 500 to 300, base damage from 14 to 12.
Tweaked various breed stats in the Immersive Horses.ini to improve balance.
Tweaked horse follow distance so horses follow further away and run into the player less.
Limited the protected flag to apply only to horses the player owns, if the MCM option is enabled.
Shadowmere and Frost are no longer protected by default. Use the MCM option instead.
Removed horse name from the 'ride' option in the menu text.
Added a toggle in the MCM to enable or disable corpse looting while mounted.
Added a toggle in the MCM to enable or disable the display of status messages for horses.
Added a toggle in the MCM to control if the last ridden horse appears nearby after you fast travel.
Fixed bug where horses equip humanoid armor, but it only takes effect AFTER inventory is closed.
Removed unintentional edit to Karinda horse.
Added fast dismount hotkeys for dismounting to the rear, left, or right side of the horse.
Moved all mounted hotkeys to their own section in the MCM.
Hotkeys can now be preset and loaded from the Immersive Horses.ini file.
Improved mount/dismount detection and hotkey registration script.
Added None check to GetHomeName function for random horse encounters with no editor locations.
Added the option to abandon horses to remove them manually from the horse list.
Randomly encountered horses can no longer be claimed by the player and are excluded from horse options.
Fixed bug where randomly encountered horses were not getting assigned to a breed in the INI.
Reduced max stolen horse time to 3600 seconds (1 hour).
Increased horse stamina needed for jumping from 5 to 10.

I have only played with the mod a short while so I can't really answer that. I have also not actively played Skyrim for a long time so my memory of CH is somewhat blurred, too.

It, very subjectively, feels more lightweight than CH, the configuration feels better, and the horse management looks awesome.

I guess you'll have to try it yourself :P There are some interesting new features, and it's supposedly much less script intensive.

Haven't watched it yet. I got the link from sevencards a minute ago. Actually let me add it to the first post.

I've tried this. I like how stable it is. The only major thing missing from the CH features is the ability to harvest herbs and such. You can still talk to npcs while mounted and loot corpses. It seems to play nicely with Aeonbarr.

The mod author and I exchanged harsh words at one point but I have to admit this is a quality mod.

Oh - multitap is missing too. It does have a range of hotkeys, however, bound according to user's preference.

Just for the sake of argument - this mod allows you to control your horses in a much better way than vanilla and allows for your followers to use horses, which makes the game more believeable and allows for better immersion in the game world in effect :)

In vanilla all you can do it mount/dismount and that's it. The followers don't use horses, they just run after you like a bunch of idiots. Not very immersive.

I have to say that i'm liking this mod more than Convinient Horses. The only thing that it misses is a feature for your followers so that they can ride horses. The author suggest EFF to take care of that.

Fell pony? I may need to sharpen my hatchet.

I will have to tell my friend about this, she loves horses. Mind you, I like horses, but they NEVER look happy. If you find a mod with happy-looking horses, they did it wrong.

Wait, that's not implemented? Damnit. I don't feel like installing something as complex as EFF simply to make Gorr and Serana ride a horse :(

Speaking of Serana, was the flaming and exploding horse a feature of CH? She kept pissing me off by that ::D:

This mod lets you name horses you own, which your followers could use, but something like EFF is needed to actually enable them to use it. I would definitely use this mod over Convenient Horses, but I like Horse Commands by Kuertee because it is lightest script-wise and accomplishes what I need- so it wins for me.
