STEP v2.2.9.1 is coming soon!

Hello staff, contributors, members, and guests!

As you may have noticed, it has now been six months since the last release of STEP. We've received many questions (well... one question, many times on the forums and Facebook), "When is v2.3.0 going to be released?". The answer to that question is unknown. There are still a lot of items to check off our lists and a lot of testing to be done before we're ready for the next major release. Currently, development of the Pack infrastructure on the wiki is our #1 obstacle. Our development team is few in numbers and spread thin with real life events taking priority. Therefore, we cannot give you an ETA on v2.3.0. Three things which will happen before developments begins:

  • The forum software will be updated
  • The wiki software will be updated
  • We'll be doing an incremental release: v2.2.9.1

Stoppingby4now and/or Z will post more on the software updates when the time comes. The third item is our incremental release. We've listened to the community and staff members and we believe having at least one more release before v2.3.0 is the right thing to do. However, being a community-driven project and site, we need your help!

The v2.2.9.1 release will most likely only be a "mod update" release. What does this mean? This means there will not be any significant changes to the STEP Guide. The Team has already prepped it for the next major release, so there is not much work to be done there. That leaves us with simply adding or updating the mods on the Guide. This brings up a problem, however. There is so much activity in the Mods forum that there is no possible way for the Staff to keep up with the best potential mods. This is where the community comes in! We need the community's help nominating mods for STEP inclusion.

How to nominate a mod?
It's actually quite easy using the forums tagging system.

  • Find a thread for a mod you think would be great in STEP or create a thread if one doesn't exist yet. (Use the search before creating new threads and keep the Mandate in mind when nominating!)
  • Once on the thread, add a the tag: testing (check your spelling!)
  • You're finished. It's as simple as that!

The Staff will filter the threads nominated for testing and review them from time to time. The mods we feel fit the bill, will be officially marked for testing with the TESTING Prefix. Due to caching, it will take around 24hrs before these mods are visible to us once tagged. If you have any questions, please post below.

So what has the Staff been working on in the past six months?

Many of the staff have been leading their own side projects while we wait on wiki development as well as tending to our real lives a bit.

So you know when can we have it

Is this a question??

... typically, one places punctuation. This may be a hassle when posting from a mobile device, but better to hassle the poster once than every single user that reads the post.

Pretty sure he meant that to be something along the lines of "So, do you know when we can expect to see the release?"

Answer: When it's ready, same as every other release. Just to save others some brain cells thinking on this gross misuse of grammar.

Is it worth holding off on downloading STEP until 2.2.9.1?

Going through the current STEP I noticed a number of mods you link to don't exist any more, and you offer no explanation of what to do with mods being recommended in their place by old authors and such.

Most of this advice is found all over the forums.

Here's SP's mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13268/

Mystery Modder's mods are just gone if you run into any of those still in there so you'll have to skip them entirely.

Here's the dev Guide if you want to follow it. It's not 100% finalized but it's stable: https://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9.1 You simply will not have the updated STEP Patches yet.
