This looks like a good candidate for STEP:  Realistic HD Ores

 

This is a very vanilla friendly retexture that looks great.  In particular, I really like that the author has made most of the ores actually look like ore (they look like rock, not lumpy pieces of metal).   The mod also improves the meshes and even claims to have improved the physics (I haven't tested this).

 

Overall, it seems like a very complete and well done replacement, and I think it's an improvement over the current STEP selection.  The mod author also is also working on retexturing ingots.

I'll have to look at these ingame somehow (consoling them to me I suppose), but off of the screenshots, I prefer this to Super Realistic Ore Textures. I do like the Corrundum from SRTO better, but this one looks more like the original texture.

A thing to note here is that the author have decided to make new cubemaps for his textures.. but not assigned new paths in his meshes. Hence his will overwrite the vanilla ones which might make other texture mods that use the same cubemaps look wrong. 

 

I made a mention for the author about it so he will hopefully update his meshes.
