New game, can't use right hand unless arrows are equipped

Question

Posted

Hi all,

Brand new game, all mods updated and used BOSS to sort them, never had this issue in over 300hours.

Basically, I can't use my right hand for magic, unarmed or weapon attacks... Unless I have arrows equipped...

When arrows are equipped, it attacks as normal but when I unequip them, I can't. When I try, I receive the message "No arrows equipped" in the top left of the screen.

I'm not using any new mods since an old playthrough where I could use my right hand.

I'm not using Advanced Kill Moves

LOAD ORDER     MOD LIST

(Please bear in mind that some of the esps in the load order are not actually ticked)

Many thanks in advance :D

Try running FNIS again to generate the animations. You may have de/activated an option when you chose this new character.

Anytime you add/remove mods that contain animations FNIS needs to be run again.

Ran FNIS again with the 2 fixes I usually do, but no changes to the error in the OP :/

hmm...

The message about 'no arrows equipped' is just the default vanilla message Skyrim gives you when you have a bow equipped and no arrows so clearly the game thinks you have a bow in your right hand.

So I would narrow the list down to mods that change that aspect of the game. Things like how your player is equipped or which weapons you have. It could be something weird like a merged or bashed patch assigning a bow label to a sword or something.

You did say you updated mods since the last playthrough so they should be likely candidates for examination.

Just had a look through mods that I've installed but none affect weaponry/ skeletons/ animations or anything else that could cause this problem.

Weird thing, I equipped a sword and was able to attack with the right hand and then I was able to use my right hand for spells/unarmed... Loaded up the same save and was unable to use right hand, until I attacked with a sword again... Weird.

Thanks for your replies :)

EDIT: So having tested the method above a bit more, using a sword to allows me to use right handed unarmed and magic attacks only for that session. Saving the game and then reloading it, I can't use my right hand again, until I've used a weapon again.

FIXED!

It's a bug with equipping overhaul Beta 4.25 which is set to be fixed in the upcoming release. Reverting to 3.13 non beta (on the mod page) fixes the issue (although I did have to start a new game)

Thanks for your replies Grant!
