Dummy Plugins, ever a reason to leave enabled?

Question

Posted

Mod Organizer says some .esp files are dummy plugins that exist only to load .bsa files of the same name. STEP Guide even uses this feature a few times.

I have a couple questions about it.

1) Do I just untick the box in the right pane or do I right click the mod and move that plugin to the "optional" section (making it not in the right pane at all). In both cases I know you'd check the bsa to be loaded in the data tab.

2) Is there ever a reason to not do this? I guess what I'm asking is how good is MO at knowing for certain that's all the plugin does.

3) I'm not at my computer and I can't remember precisely what I did, think just right-click the high res dlcto bring up he information window for the "mod" and I had the option to move plugins to the upper (optional instead of available). Since those plugins are dummy should I move them to optional? I only ask because I know they're sort of different because they're official or whatever. If the answer to 1 is only untick the box then ignore this question.

I forget how everything loads, but if bsas are after esps it might matter but if the esp just tells skyrim to use that bsa and it still loads when it normally would it wouldn't make a difference.

Thanks in advance and sorry for any typos, on my phone so it's tough to error check. If I notice any later on my desktop I will edit.

generally leave them enabled if you don't have MO handling them or you haven't extracted the .bsa that is associated with the .esp

Otherwise you can uncheck them. I would recommend extracting the bsa and then placing it in a proper LO.

I follow the 2 suggestion. I have not bsa archives other than some from steam because of ETaC.

1) Yes, untick the box in the right pane & check the bsa to be loaded in the archives tab.

2) I don't think so as its best to let MO manage your bsa files.

3) Yes, after step 1 above just enter the information window in the left pane and move the dummy esp files to optional for a neat & clean right pane.
