I tried playing my current playthrough this afternoon, and I CTD'd in a few seconds. I was like, oh no! I had changed some settings in enblocal.ini, so I changed them back. Still CTD, perfectly repeatable. Turned off Minty Lightning, as it was really thundering and lightning at the time of the CTDs, thinking maybe the script was somehow crashing my game. Still crashed.

So, after going through these basic troubleshooting procedures that I've learned throughout my experience, I figured it was time to load up TES5Edit. I had updated three mods (always wise to keep this number small): Skyfalls, Thieves Guild Requirements, and Better Shaped Weapons. My thinking was:

  • If TES5Edit looks fine for everything, I'll revert Better Shaped Weapons back and see if it isn't a faulty mesh CTD.
  • Hopefully either TES5Edit or this will fix the CTD. If not, I'm really going to be sad.

Loaded up TES5Edit. Lo and behold, when SkyFalls updated, it changed one of its references, so my big conflict resolution patch had a nasty little sitting in the Tamriel Worldspace (minor patch between Relighting Skyrim and Skyfalls). No wonder I CTD'd!

Unfortunately like you I've seen this happen infrequently but often enough that it is quite annoying. I've also occasionally seen these unresolved references in mods themself when they are updated.
