Nearox Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/55921/? The author has some quite elaborative explanations of various INI settings. Some very interesting conclusions with regards to some INI settings as well. I disagree with the values he chooses for a few of them, but the exlanations are spot on. he particularly has some interesting things to say about the different grass tweaks, and how they affect pop-in. Is there anything in his guide which, by your knowledge, is incorrect? By the way, does STEP actually have an INI guide like this on the wiki (with explanations, not the 2.2.9 INI guide with settings)? Can't seem to find one.
Adonis_VII Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) I tried his ENB, but the nights didn't mesh well with the CoT Weather Patch darker nights mod. His suggestions on lighting do seem to be an improvement (using RLO and a custom modified ENB for just shadows, reflections, and a couple ther things). I did a quick test standing on the mountains overlooking the reach at a bunch of campfires and it looked quite nice with the fog. I would like to hear second opinions on the settings thought. With what in particular do you disagree? Edited July 22, 2014 by Adonis_VII
Adonis_VII Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) Here is an album I took setting the light distances to from 100-400% default https://imgur.com/a/stGxM#0. You can clearly see the improvement in the 4 Reach images. Oddly at 3500 you can see a pinpoint light source at the mouth of the cave. At 7000 & 10500 it disappears and at 140000 you can see the ambient light. Outside Whiterun, the tower lighting doesn't seem to change, even though a closer forge dims. The problem of course is when the fade distance meets or exceeds the load distance when moving between grids, causing the light to pop in with the rest of the grid. Edited July 22, 2014 by Adonis_VII
DoubleYou Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I've looked at it, and most of it is correct. Only thing that hit me as incorrect were some of his shadow setting statements, which is obviously because he uses ENB shadows and not vanilla shadows.
plaGGy Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Yeah, ENB Shadows (which are basically Must-have for me) are quite a story.Any suggestions for good settings skyrim shadow settings while using an ENB? Imo I tend to crank them down quite a bit since it doesn't really matter anymore and just eats performance.Especially the distance settings affect performance a hell lot of. the difference between 8000 and 4000 is, depending on the scene you are looking at, about 20-25 FPS with ENB (and mostly without, too).
Aiyen Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Most of it is sound advice... the few in my opinion minor things are more or less just personal preference depending on system anyways. Nice little addition to the list of many many guides on graphics out there.
