Could anyone explain what "clean save" is? I see it referenced quite often (as in, "do a clean save"), but with no explanation.

Thanks. I don't understand the technical stuff about Skyrim much if at all, but this looks like placebo at best to me. People really do this?

Some scripted mods do require a clean save for updating as far as I'm aware. So you have to stop the scripts, uninstall the mod, make a save without this mod and it's scripts (this is the clean save), and then install the new mod version and use that clean save.

 

Effectively it's as you'd be installing the mod for the first time.
