A well made mod that does what it says, retex the NPC clothing similar to a current STEP Mod (2x Clothing Remix)..

The author says in description: "tried to make my designs as lore-friendly as possible" - which is great for the STEP community and I think did a good job achieving this. Personally, I prefer Elaborate Textiles but its a matter of opinion I guess. The author has said in comments more updates will be coming with more alternates to choose from which is always nice....

What do ya'll think?

A lot of the textures look really good, but some of them could use some fine-tuning, especially to bring out the details.  I particularly like this mod because they really bring out the cloth's texture, but that's based on a comparison with Vanilla.  We'll need to see some side-by-side shots with 2X Clothing Remix to really see the differences.  If there's enough interest I can go through and do this, but it'll take a while to get through them all.

Outfits added by this mod not in 2X:

  • emperor
  • yarl
Outfits added by 2X not in this mod:

  • most shoes, hats, and other accessories
  • a lot of normal maps, in fact this mod doesn't add any new maps
  • blacksmith
  • chef
  • farmclothes02
  • jester
  • minerclothes
  • monk (except bluevariant)
  • necromancer
  • prisoner
  • psiijic
  • reguard (unless you use the optional)
  • robemythicdawn
  • sheogorath
  • warlock
  • weddingdress
  • Executionhood
  • Mournersclothes
So as Fri said, 2X Clothing Remix would need to be installed prior to this mod for best results.  Another issue with compatibility between them is how the normals from 2X will appear given the textures from this mod.

As far as i know immersive armors will not overwrite Elaborate Textiles, or even conflict. I think IM adds totally new armor to the game, while ET retextures already exiting clothing.

This mod is a little fancy for my tastes, as i imagine that all npcs would have these modified textures? It would be great to use this with Automatic Variants. Or am i mistaken about all npcs getting clothing textures replaced by these?

Immersive Armors is another good one that compliments Elaborate Textiles' date=' but I'm not sure how it plays nice with others since it has both loose files and a .esp in it. (and esp's get loaded last, right? so it would overwrite everything prior)[/quote']

ESPs aren't assets in themselves, they control/define how assets are added to the world, so there's no "overwriting" between textures and ESPs, you're thinking of a BSA.  Because of this these mods should work together, one is just texture replacements and the other adds completely new items.

The thing to watch out for with Immersive Armors is that it adds the armors to the "leveled lists", which is a boilerplate list of possible items that can spawn in a given situation.  A simplified example would be the array of possible drops from a boss in an MMO, except in this case multiple mobs utilize the same array.  Luckily we have WB to make sure different mods that edit the same lists play nicely.  All that said, those armors are pretty nice and it really just boils down to gameplay balance as to whether they get included.

Not all NPCs will have their armor replaced, there's just a chance that they will; these sets are added to the list of choices that an NPC can be assigned to having, if that makes sense.  Automatic Variants isn't meant for equipment/items but for the textures of the creatures themselves, so it's completely unrelated to armor/item mods.

Ah, great, makes perfect sense! I will def use this mod then.

I am aware that AV atm is a texture replacer and randomizer for creatures, but was operating under the impression that NPC textures are chosen the same way as creatures are. But if NPCs have a list of choices then yep, AV is redundant. Thanks for the clarification!

I tried this for a while and though I do like the designs I wish it were a higher res texture. They look really good up to a point. The low res textures were very noticeable (for me at least) once I got close to a character and the clothes look very out of place if you are using a high res skin texture. Not knocking it at all. I love the work but I for one am going to hold off and hope the author decides to add an HD version.

Since 2X Clothing is not in STEP anymore (?) - shall we reconsider this mod?

We'll need help gathering comparisons against Vanilla+HRDLC ;)

I may get to do it at some point this week, depending on how busy I'll be with other things.

The majority of 2x Clothing is 1k and are merely the vanilla textures with a bit of sharpening and contrast added, an okay alternative for people not using the HR DLC but for everyone else it's not really worth it. I've used 2x Clothing, Elaborate Textiles and Improved NPC clothing and to me none of them really offer anything I would consider better than the HR DLC.
