Low FPS, wailing carts and CTD after installing STEP

Question

Posted (edited)

Hi all!

So I just finished installing STEP, and some mods of my choice. I installed all the mods in STEP 2.2.9(I used this over 2.2.8 mainly due to the two mods, Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade and Better Shaped Weapons), except a few of the sound mods and a few of the gameplay mods.

Anywho, as the headline says, thos are my problems. They all happen in the intro sequence cart ride. I have about 5-9 FPS, the physics are a bit wrong(they are not completly upside down or jumping around, but now and again, they turn sideways or starts bumpling), and I CTD just after the "Son of Skyrim", whose name I can't remember, says "those damn elfs" or something like that. I CTD'ed at that point all 3 times I rebooted.

I have gone through the STEP fixes. I have reset, and re-tweaked the .ini's. I have re-bashed the Bashed Patch. I have also repatched Skyproc. I have cleaned all mods that needed cleaning(Except Guard Dialogue Overhaul and the Unofficial Patches). I have optimized both Vanilla, DLC, HiRes DLC and mods textures using DDSopt(this is not in an attempt to fix, I did this before).

I have checked the mod order and such loading up TES5Edit, with no problems.

My computer specs are

i7-4702MQ 2.2GHz 3.2GHz overclocked

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760m 2GB VRAM

8GB DDR3 RAM(7.66GB useable RAM)

I play at 1920x1080 resolution, since that is the standard resolution for my computer. I don't feel like this is an issue with my computer not being able to handle the game or mods though. I have had STEP installed before(though with Skyrim HD, not Skyrim Realistic Overhaul), with virtually no problems(this was version 2.2.7, in October last year).

I did not extract .bsa files when I installed the mods through Mod Organizer.

I am using both ENBoost(using the Optimus Fix, since I am on laptop), and Sheson Memory Patch is activated in SKSE.ini, using the alpha version of SKSE. I don't think this is an issue though. And I am not using an ENB preset.

I can honestly say, even though I am somewhat of a newbie modder, that I have no idea what is causing this.

I have attached a couple of files, if review of them is needed in an attempt to diagnose this.

I should say, that I have 10 plugins unrecognized by BOSS, all of which I have not manually locked in load order. I simply have no idea where I should put them.

~Sincerely

Have you tried having Wrye Bash scan for UDRs?

The carts issue happens when (I believe) when mods add things to the player at the start of the game. You can probably sidestep this with Live Another Life, assuming you've played the vanilla opening at least once. The "camping" option is a good one to hook back up with the MQ quickly and painlessly.

Apart form that ... nothing leaps out immediately.

Nope, just use it to start a new game. You'll begin in a prison cell with the facegen menu. When you've picked a race and a face, activate the statue of Mara in the cell, and she'll give you a menu of possible starting points.

As I say "camping in the woods" gets you close to a vanilla startup, without having to slog through Helgen. Don't go for "caught illegally crossing the border, or you'll end up back on the cart :)

Or pick one of the other options that sounds interesting. Starting as an Imperial or Stormcloak soldier can work well, although I tend to start with "attached and left for dead" if I'm not going camping.

Well, that's better than nothing at all. If only in so far as you can't do much diagnosis when you CTD.

Can you try shift-F12 in game to temporarily disable your ENB? If your ENB jumps upwards that will point a way forward. If not, well at least you'll have eliminated one possible cause.

[edit]

Never mind. I misread your post. I could have sworn you said you were using one the chunkier ENB presets.

With such low FPS, I'm very tempted to say that you don't have the Optimus fix working correctly.

Can you try using the Injector version of ENB instead?

I will!

For the Injector ENB(it's not covered in STEP) do I just need the ENBInjector.exe and the ENBInjector.ini and enblocal.ini?

My normal FPS used to be about 28-35 outside and a steady 60 inside.

The cart ride  issues are erratic as well as being directly proportional to the number of scripted mod initializations you have going on in the INTRO scene.

Since I used the word erratic, what I mean is this:

Same mod build, 10 game starts, 6 Krazy Kart Inflicted Scenes.

Same mod build, 10 game starts, 3 Krazy Kart Inflicted Scenes.

Same mod build, 10 game starts, 9 Krazy Kart Inflicted Scenes.

......

There's a random quality to the occurrence heavily influenced by mod load and the type of mods.

The game I am playing atm had a crashing cart the first time I ran it up. I closed the game, restarted my PC and had no further issue; no mods were changed.

So, the problem is a PITA to isolate or predict.

Some things to consider:

-heavy mod load/scripting

-VSYNC disabled

-Mod Conflicts at game start, ie Helgen Reborn, etc.

- memory related issues, reboot PC to clear

Also make sure you haven't accidentally turned on the frame limiter to 10 fps. I set the setting to 60 simply because sometimes I accidentally hit the frame limiter key.
