Question

Posted

Long story short:

Take a look at this post. There's no way to open the images in new tabs, so doing any kind of compare is basically imposible. Right click opens an image instead of presenting me with context menu, and ctrl+click doesn't open a tab either.

Is there any way to change this?

I just hope S4N can do his voodoo and come up with something like he did for the old forums.

In the mean time if anyone wants to do side by side images like the old forums the image host I'd recommend is Minus it's free ad you can create galleries and use arrow keys to scroll through (plus no file size limit). Look at the AmidianBorn Caves thread to see my use of it.

The pop-out box looks similar to a jQuery gallery. If it is, it should be pretty easy to add in a scroll feature. There are hundreds available around the Web that do this very thing with the ability to cycle images.

minus is the worst image host tbh. Slow bandwidth, and if you open a link on your phone it will harass you with prompts to download their stupid app...

It is Lightbox, and I think that a fix can soon be implemented once I can get access to the IPB info they have locked away. Waiting to get auth from s4n since it is his license, and I am strapped in dealing with IPB source software and questions.

IPB does indeed use Lightbox. The old forums I used Highslide which I find more powerful and customizable. I will be implementing a similar solution here and wanted to be working on it by now, but I've been on call this week and haven't had the time. Will be getting started soon though.

This could go to this thread as well: can you change something so that links that do not end with recognized image file extension be used? Example: https://copy.com/klN1dnm8EO3D

If I try to add it to a post as an image, I get an error saying "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.".

z929669 testing image posting from Copy link:

Works fine for me, so it must work for everyone else that is doing it correctly:

On Copy (or whatever provider you use), right click on your image asset, select 'share', then copy/paste the link into the image dialog you see when clicking on the little picture icon in the middle of the second row of the post editor:

EDIT: It turns out that we had defined several basic extensions as valid for posting images, and even after including a 'null' extension, I was not able to post an image as this test user. I went in and removed those restrictions, and it works now :/ Edited by testestest

I have a browser extension called snaplinks that lets you create a box by holding right click. Then all the links in the box will open as separate tabs in the browser, which is super useful to avoid the image pop we have now. The problem now, is that snaplinks doesn't work with the embedded images on IPB like it did with myBB.

Not sure why it doesn't work, but maybe the site just doesn't count the embedded stuff as a true link.

I use snaplinks and it works on other IPB forums. Idk what it is with this forum in particular that is blocking embedded images from working correctly...

This is another problem for s4n ... I have no idea either ... you might try again now to see if the extension limitation I just removed had anything to do with it.
