fSunShadowUpdateTime

This value tells the engine how long it has to update the shadow according to the sun angle in seconds.

If you set this to 0 the shadows won't move smoothly to their new position. They will jump there instead. This is not all bad since it hides really bad shadow striping which occurs when shadows move over surfaces.

 

fSunUpdateThreshold

This value tells the engine how frequently it needs to update the shadow according to the sun angle in seconds.

If you set this to 0 the shadows will be updated all the time which strains your system and might cause shadow striping (see above.)
