S.T.E.P. Core + More - getting CTD (All logs, load order, etc attached)

Question

Posted

I'm getting many CTD, though it's kind of random... they can happen when I'm saving, looting, pressing ESC to get to the options menu, etc..

If someone with a better eye for what might be causing the problem can have a look, it would be much appreciated.  loadorder.txt, Papyrus.0.log.txt, Skyrim.ini, and SkyrimPrefs.ini attached.

Thanks,

diznanl

Just looking through your mod list, you have the Improved Closedfaced Helmets plugins, but you don't need those since you are using the merged Legendary Edition.

Remove:

  • imp_helm.esp
  • imp_helm_imp.esp
  • imp_helm_dawn.esp
  • imp_help_dbrn.esp
  • imp_guard_helm.esp

You have two Skyrim Project Optimization plugins. Use only the .esm and delete the other one.

Your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini are complete crap. You have way to many entries that hurting your game. Mod Organizer has separate ones for every profile so find those in your MO directory and delete them. Then go into documents->my games->Skyrim and find your INIs and delete them. Then start up Skyrim again so the default ones can regenerate. Only use the STEP recommend INI edits.

Start with that stuff. If your saves say are missing data don't worry it is only because you removed redundant plugins.

We've tested just about everything and can't find anything that helps. You are better served with the new memory patch Ssme and enboost. Those show real gains not placebo stuff like those ini tweaks.

@EssArrBee

Thanks again! STEP Core Patch.esp is complaining about missing:

imp_helm_dawn.esp

imp_help_dbrn.esp

I believe I can remove these master file requirements with TES5Edit -- is this recommended or should I remove the Legendary plugin and go with the individual plugins?

Thanks,

diznanl

Yeah use the individual plugins, I forgot that STEP Patches is still using the 2.2.7 stuff, but I'm already doing testing for the new update and it uses the legendary plugin. The next STEP release will have no dependencies for those mods.

When I originally implemented STEP, I saved a copy of my vanilla skyrim directory. I restored to this, copied SKSE to the directory, created new skyrim.ini. and skyrimprefs.ini, applied STEP recommended edits those two files, and everything is working at this point. Have played 50+ minutes without a CTD.

@EssArrBee thank you!

I will update this thread should there be any other issues.

Thanks,

diznanl

Ok!  I actually reverted a backed-up copy of my skyrim directory, followed S.T.E.P. ini instructions, disabled Skyrim Project Optimization.esp, and disabled the Improved Closedfaced Helmets - Legendary Edition.esp.

Everything ran very smoothly for about 30 minutes, then I got another CTD.

I've attached my Papyrus log, skyrim.ini, and skyrimprefs.ini.

It looks like the last entries in the Papyrus log are referring to Wet and Cold.  Could this be the cause of the CTDs?

Thanks,

diznanl

The last log entry is 14 minutes after it opened so I'm guessing you have a different crash, to be honest papyrus is usually a mess and can't handle everything. There is a lot of missing files at the beginning of your logs, so I'm guessing that you have been installing and uninstalling mods along the way with your current saves. Skyrim is so fickle that it really causes issues when you do that.

One piece of advice that helped me was to get my mod list the way I want, then don't touch it for that character. You can just break to much stuff.

Thanks, EssArrBee

I've just added ENBoost and SSME, as well as Skyrim Performance Monitor. I'm going to try to salvage my current saves, but if I continue to get CTD, I'll start a new character.

Thanks again!

SSME with ENBoost is good combo for some people's super corrupted saves.

Make sure that you check out the directions to ENBoost on the STEP guide, we just updated to 2.2.8 this morning, and ENBoost is in section 2.B or 2.C (I forget), but is has a quick way to get it installed. Get SSME from the nexus page and make sure to follow the directions of the author Queue, that guy knows his stuff.

Skyrim Performance monitor is good to check if you are hitting the 3.1GB RAM limit or if you are running out of VRAM.

@EssArrBee... thanks for the info! Updating my .ini files now.

Using Skyrim Performance Monitor, I've confirmed that ENBoost has already cut RAM usage by less than half.

SSME appears to be working as well; ssme.log matches Nexus description page:

SSME v. 01080000

parsing INI file

address 004BD832 patched from 6086290F to 6086110F

address 00687E89 patched from 00000200 to 00000300

address 00A4E6BF validated as 10000000

parsing finished

Now that I'm using ENB, is Borderless Window and Safety Load now redundant/not needed?

Thanks again,

diznanl

Yes, you can get Borderless window by going to the Skyrim/enbloca.ini. Open that up and find the [WINDOW] section and change both lines to true. I believe that you need to then open the INI editor in MO and under [Display] find these three lines:

  • bFull Screen=0  <- has to be '0'
  • iSize H=            <- enter resolution on these lines
  • iSize W=
Safety Load is included in the SSME stuff I believe so you don't have to worry, just uninstall it.
