Map crash/delayed sounds

I've been having this problem where when I open the map there's no sound. It doesn't happen all the time but it's often. Sometimes it'll come after a few seconds with all the sound coming back rapid fire, other times it won't register unless I exit out and try again. However, when this happens I'm always ready for a crash because that's what usually happens. If I go over something or manage to click on an icon to fast-travel more often than not I'll CTD. It's like the delay/lack of sounds causes Skyrim to kill itself for some reason.

 

Does anyone have an idea on why this would cause Skyrim to CTD?
