DoYouEvenModBro Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Discussion thread:aMidianBorn Farmhouse by CaBaLWiki Link Dropped in v3.0.I didn't see this posted yet in the 'mods' section so I thought I'd post it. The screenshots look like vanilla/SRO farmhouses to me. I really can't tell any difference. I don't have a working PC at the moment but if someone wants to try this out and compare it to SRO, that would be great. rootsrat Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I tried it, but the bleak door texture didn't appeal to me, it didn't fit well IMHO. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
DoYouEvenModBro Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 I figured I'd post this since Cabal's Imperial Fort's mod received a lot of positive feedback here.
mothergoose729 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I like this mod a lot and would use it, it if I weren't such a fanboy over annins HQ towns and village.
Aiyen Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 My only issue with this mod is that the roofs, while nice, are just too tidy and ordered... and when you have a large amount of houses like riverwood, then they just stand out too much. As it is now it looks like they have a crew comming around putting on a brand new roof every other day! I like the more rough, and messy looking textures from seriousHD... However the wood textures I might put in since those are quite nice, and actually look like wood.
Smile44 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Nord Thatching crew mod anyone. I had not noticed that in game roofs look great, are Nords proud of their home? Given the climate I would think that most home owners would take care of their home themselves, especially the roof after all it isn't modern times when no one has any old style crafting skills. Just a thought. :)
EssArrBee Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Can someone explain why Bethesda put all these textures in the farmhouse folder and they are not used on the little farmhouses, instead are used for towns and villages? Drove me nuts trying to find these. Well, at least now I'll have some screens up soon.
CaBaL Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 can find all textures in riverwood Ess :) yes anyway sometime names of folders and files is a true mess in beth games... i suspect because, above all this kind of tileable textures for landscape and architectures follow initial stage of game creation.... names reflect this stage...indipendently from the final actual use of an object . is a common use in bethesda both on equipment and architecture to create 100% of complex objects and then divide them into parts for minor things... in this case of farmhouses in example the stone wall(nifs and textures ) are re-used as those wall pieces at the borders of any road and in windmills .It would be a damn waiste of time and space to create new folders with new nifs and tex properly named just for "parts" so we see farmhouse textures used everywhere... broken walls, mills, even mines and forts. clearly... if beth would not have deadlines and space standards they could easily create much diversification... giving t each object proper textures sets.

You'd think that keeping the textures and meshes in the right place would actually make things go faster, but I guess meshes are the real problem not textures. Here are the shots for pretty much everything in this mod, maybe one or two textures I didn't get to. Even though the mod is called farmhouses, it covers towns and villages. The name comes from the folder name the textures are in, so if you want to complain do so here: @BGS_Devs HRDLC->STEP Core->AMB->AOF    Some HRDLC and STEP Core are the same. The rest of it is SRO and the window picture is from Visible windows and the wood post is SMIM. I've added AOF for reference to something different since SRO and HRDLC are so alike, but I think AOF might have the same issue. No pelts for AOF. DoYouEvenModBro Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 I like STEP core better. I think it looks sharper. I think Cabal's are great too but not as good as SROs in term of vanilla-style and sharpness. Cabal's looks a bit plastic-like to me. I might use Cabal's straw textures for interiors and exteriors though. I kind of like that style.

Ess... also the big fireplace in center of tavern is...or should be covered by farmouse stuff...same texture is applied in stairs in few towns... dragonbridge and stone of shor if i remember correctly ...oh and the roof  around town walls (i do not cover that texture) other set maybe
DoYouEvenModBro Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 I guess I like vanilla style better. Anyway, let's get some more opinions. Maybe step core is serioushd not sro. I have no idea
EssArrBee Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I guess I like vanilla style better. Anyway' date=' let's get some more opinions.[hr']Maybe step core is serioushd not sro. I have no ideaInstall the mod and go to Riverwood and Falkreath. You'll see everything in the sun in Riverwood and then everything in the foggy weather in Falkreath. The stone walls around the buildings won't be shiny any more, the wood walls won't have a washed out look, and roofs actually look like they are made out of straw.
DoubleYou Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 With HRDLC versus STEP Core, STEP Core wins all the way, but with Core versus AMB, it's hit or miss for me. My observations for the latter two: White fur peltAMB is better IMO. It is more detailed and looks more like the pelts I've seen in RL. It has more depth to the hairs. Brown peltSame as White fur pelt for me. AMB has a thicker coat and looks less like the fuzzy grain of Core. Stone FloorSTEP Core wins this one. I have seen rock floors exactly like this. The slabs are bigger than smaller and are smoother because the constantly walking on the floor smooths it out. AMB is too rough and also doesn't seem to work well with the pelts on the floor. Thatch Roof indoorsI prefer AMB but both are good. I like the lower contrast it provides between the straw (?) and the supporting beams. It makes it look warmer. The Core textures look like there is a high level of light casting deep shadows between the beams and the straw. ExteriorsDoor (also wood in front of door and stone walls)STEP Core wins out for me, as AMB is too clean, and it appears to have some kind of weird finish on it that only got applied to some of the boards. Stone WallI prefer AMB for the deeper contrast in the crevices of the rocks. Thatch RoofSTEP Core wins this one for me, although AMB has its merits. I think ultimately the mesh looks like it needs to be improved, as it seems to harsh in the crevice. AMB looks better at the crevice because of the increased granularity, but looks worse at the edge. I don't really like the granularity, which is my primary problem with it. Also, the AMB textures are a little too bright, don't have as much deep contrast. STEP Core is less granular, but still has a nice grain that can be seen near the bottom especially. Core also has a deeper contrast within layers, marking places where the roof is deteriorating slightly. Still, I think this texture could use improvement. What does AOF Farmhouses look like on this one (or is that texture not in that mod, I forget). WindowsI much prefer STEP Core, which I believe to be Visible Windows right here. AMB seems to make the windows look bumpy somehow, at least in my eye. Visible windows adds some dirt build-up around the edges and adds a pleasing grain. Wood WallI like the AMB textures, except it is a little too dark in the center. It contrasts too strongly against the other boards. The inner textures look like they need to be brightened slightly. STEP Core, while less detailed, seem to fit better with each other. Rope & wood post (also wood floor)STEP Core wins overall. The AMB rope is too dark in the grooves and too straight. It especially doesn't work well around the post. The AMB wood post texture is better than Core, as it has better contrast for the grooves and looks slightly rougher. The AMB floor, however, has bright grains as if someone had taken a sander to all of those boards, which doesn't seem realistic. I don't think anyone would have ever hand sanded all those floorboards. And the sanding job looks recent, when in reality I would think that they should look much older given the harsh climate. The Core textures reflect that, having a deeper contrasting shadow in the grooves and looks like actual boards I have in my father's barn. Woven FenceIs there a difference between Core and AMB? They both have contrasting stick colors, but both are rather bright. They look about interchangeable to me.
CaBaL Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 thanks for the analisys double you... really helpfull for future development/improvements
