Updating MO form 1.0.7 to 1.0.11

Question

Posted

Hi everyone..

am currently using Mod Organizer 1.0.7 I tried to update to 1.0.11 but MO will not show me the Update button.. I did the author recommendation: "If the update doesn't show up in MO you may have to go to settings->workarounds and enter 0.46.0 as the "nmm version". Then restart MO."

it didn't work? I can't see the update button active!

so please help how do I update MO guys..

um. actually, no, i don't see a problem. seems fairly self explanatory to me. since your version .07 does not fall between .09 and .11 then it does not apply, does it? No.

so, do you want to use the handy dandy .11 installer? or prefer to drop it in yourself?

that being said, i used a different route. i downloaded the .09 installer to update from .07, then downloaded the update .09 - .11 and dropped that in. i didn't want to take a chance on missing something that i should have done between .07 and .11.

and now i have an error when trying to download, it gives me an error and says that it can't find a file necessary to resume a download of that file. problem is, i've never downloaded it before and the directory that it says it's trying to resume the download from - is the original location of my .07 installation which i had then renamed to something more generic before installing .09 and then dropping in the .11 update.

i think i'll try the .11 installer and install it over the current stuff and see what happens. worse comes to worse i 7z'd a copy of the original .07 files before starting the whole update and i can start over.

common sense - missing since 2000

Versions prior to version 1.0.11 will not update via the internal update as the recent Nexus changes broke the links in MO.

In your case use the regular archive to update MO. Below is a brief summary of the process.

Open the current install of MO in Windows explorer. You should see ModOrganizer.exe.

Download the Current archive version of MO to a temporary folder. Once downloaded open that folder and extract the contents of the archive. You will see a new folder ModOrganizer. Go into that folder and select everything there and copy them.

Go to the first Explorer window and paste the files there, selecting overwrite as needed.

Start MO and it will be updated. Your previous settings will be intact as long as you did not run MO from the extracted archive location.

common sense I hate this word lol

well to me I have an awesome gaming experience with all my Games because simply I ask a lot lol I mean I will not do anything until I understand carefully how I should do it..

as for a person like me who gone  through ages not owning a PC and then buy a Gaming one I had to relay on my ignorant to read before exploring and exploring before experimenting.. this probably been easy for me because everything on the GamingPC world is new and exciting to read and watch videos about it..

thank you sir for the replay, GSDFan gave a working solution.

I have the same problem now with 1.0.12 trying to update to 1.1.1, I can't update through the Update button in MO.. even after I changed the workdarounds to 0.47.1, it promote me to the update windows and when I click yes nothing happen..

so can this method of updating showing in GSDFan post apply again to the same situation, I thought I check before I wreck (come on that's a good rhyme lol)

I have downloaded the new update version I'm just waiting to go, so let me go Guys :)

BTW: is it 0.47.0 or 0.47.1 ?

That should work fine. It has been my experience that the core files in MO do not change between versions and when they do, Tannin will give fair warning.

To protect yourself and the time you have spent in setting up MO and downloading mods, I would suggest making a backup of the following files and folders:

  • categories.dat file. This will be in the MO root folder if you have made changes to the categories.
  • ModOrganizer.ini file. It is good practice to make regular incremental backups of this file. If this file gets deleted or corrupted, a restore of the most recent backup will get up back up without having to set up all of your third party tools.
  • Profiles folder. These hold the information on each profile in MO.
  • Mods and download folders. If you have not changed the location of these in the settings then backup them also. I keep my downloads on a large HDD, so I do not have to back them up, and my mods directory stay in the MO folder on the solid state drive and will get backed up after I have my base install (STEP) done.
I find that this saves an incredible amount of time when things go south.

Also make a backup of the MO 'overwrite' directory.

Although it is good practise to have your 'overwrite' directory empty.

thank you for the reply

I have the overwrite Directory empty.. (I don't know what it's but every time I checked it, it appear empty

Please have a look at the MO wiki. I have to admit it is not the clearest/cleanest section of the wiki but it explains it pretty well. Basically every time a mod generates/updates a file it will end up there. A bashed patch will end up there, logfile for skse plugins end up there, FNIS output, all data generated by Skyroc based programs like Automatic Variants. It it important to know what it is and what it does. I believe the 5+ videos  in the resource tab of the wiki also discuss it. When you clean files with Tes5Edit they do NOT end up in the overwrite 'pseudo' directory but they overwrite the original file - though a backup of the original file is put in the overwrite directory.

oh thank you for clearing this, this is very helpful.

I use the Bashed Patch and FNIS also I had some logs with SKSE, it just when ever I have a generated file from one of these tools I create a mod for it or I take it and drop in the mod file (FNIS main mod folder) so I guess I was doing a good practice but I didn't know how it's work.. now I know, so overwrite folder is where these kept in..

I truly appreciate the time and the care you giving to explain this to me.

My pleasure and  thanks for your kind words.

Note: Some skse mods generate log files which end up in the overwrite directory. For example Skyrim -Elys- MemInfo. It has been reported that when you create a mod  for it using MO like ElysMemInfo for it  and then play Skyrim again the updated log will stay in the /modsElys/MemInfo directory. Now that I'm finally after a break of a year at the point that I almost can start playing Skyrim again I will try to figure out if this is true for other mods as well, ie Skyproc based mods. I will report my findings in the 'overwrite' thread or in my own 'Info which need to be added to the wiki' thread. In the end this info will end up in the MO wiki.

Wolverine you might want to check out Bashed Patch in Overwrite Folder (clarifications) thread. It contains some information that you may want to check out. I have been studying this also. I give a brief overview in post 8 of what I have found.
