bitdman Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Hey all!   I was just wondering why when my computer boots does the desktop appears then all the icons turn white and slowly one by one they reappear as normal? This seems a waste of time.

bitdman Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Check for a startup process not behaving and sapping your resources. Thanks for the reply Z. So can i assume this is not a normal windows 7 64bit start up?
rootsrat Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Yeah, it seems like your start up is slowed down by something. What is your system spec?

rootsrat Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 You surely have a rig to run it flawlessly. Strange. Not sure what to suggest to be honest. Maybe check at what speeds you RAM is running? It may be incorrectly configured.
phazer11 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Well first off. What model Hard drive is that it could either have a low RPM therefore be generally slower plus the amount of free space or lack of can affect a Hard Drives performance. For instance a 7200 RPM Hard Disk will have faster R/W and Transfer rate which translates into better performance. Though generally you won't notice your boot up times increase (not like it will take minutes longer). I can say you won't get as fast transfer speeds if you have a 5400 RPM Drive vs. a 7200 RPM drive of the same host interface (SATA6 or USB3 for instance) Would you mind downloading Piriform's CCleaner if you don't have it already and posting a screenshot of what it says in the startup tab of the program please? Also when was the last time you ran a defrag? You'll also probably want to run a temporary files clean up and an internet browser cache wipe (this will also get rid of your cookies). If you can't answer that last question then I suggest you download a good defragmenter and run it on it's highest optimization setting and leave it running and do something else while it does its thing (it may take several hours). I recommend either Auslogics Disk Defrag or Piriform's Defraggler. Ok the video is very roughly edited with some very dirty cuts that my editor side is cringing at and is completely silent since my voice sounds like crap on this computer's sound card and I don't want to deal with finding a song in my library or something like a machinimasound that fits. You'll need to enter the following password (case sensitive) to view it.SkyrimTough one right?[video=vimeo]http-~~-//vimeo.com/82164864 I'll be uploading a slightly cleaner cut version with a machinimasound audio track whenever it get's done and will post it when I wake up in about 8 hours or so. I'll also change the password when I do so, since I'm sure others can use this advice as well.
bitdman Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 The HDD is 7200 RPM Here is the start up page for CCleaner. I used snipping tool, hope it works ok. Nice video phazer 11. I'm sure a lot of CCleaner users will luv this. I wonder if you might be able to put a snap shot of what "task manager min. services running" at startup would look like? Or maybe even a snap shot of 'msconfig' startup, and services tab to show users what the minimum number of programs should be at windows 7 start up. I used to hear a lot about too many background programs running can make Elderscrolls games unstable. this is alittle off topic. Sorry, but I thought since I have your attention I would ask. Oh Oh!!! I'm not sure how to attach the ccleaner snippit ???????
phazer11 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Well my start up programs and processes will be different from yours (and most peoples will too) so I don't see how that'll help. I'm also running Windows 8 on a SSD so I'd have to boot my desktop up which has an HDD for anything close to a good comparison. As for the number of processes running during use, I think the normal range is between 75-90 (I think I average around 82-83) anything more than that you'll probably want to go into your services menu and start disabling all the useless junk. The somewhat better video is undergoing review by Vimeo's automated system and it should look a little clearer text and scaling wise I forgot to tick a setting when I encoded the other video last night so the filesize was larger and Vimeo decided to process it to meet their standards (it has an audio track this time too found one that fit nicely IMO). To attach the screenshot go to the full editor and click the picture button (if you've uploaded to an image host) or go to the full editor and click the paper clip if the image is less than 1 MB. Also don't forget to defragment your drive and check it for errors as per the video, that'll likely help a lot. (Now I think on it, Auslogic's Defrag tool will let you check your drive for errors just like I showed for Defraggler if you go to Actions ---> Advanced ---> Check & Correct Selected.
bitdman Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Thanks for all the input. I only have 54 processes running so I must be ok. I defrag on a regular bases and have used ccleaner for years. I think I'll move the OS to an SSD and use the standard HDD's for storage. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all. You guys ROCK Skyrim!!
