rootsrat Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Discussion thread:HQ Paper by AnarinWiki Link Just found this mod. It covers a bit more than Realistic Paper that we currently use in STEP: Books, notes, business ledgers, rolls of paper, scrolls, battle maps and the corresponding world objects (such as open books, notes on the wall, etc). Worth comparing I think. Most textures are double the vanilla resolution (512^2 to 1024^2). The low-res images have been scaled up to 4x their original resolution (256^2 to 1024^). Also including altered meshes. Now all notes have a unique texture + alpha channels. Journal pages are unique and now there are 7 book page textures, opposed to just 1.Mod Testing[*]Gather and post compares from current STEP (Realistic Paper - Dark / HQ Skyrim Map) and this mod.[*]Attempt to gather all the compares from the textures covered as possible.[*]No ENBs/light mods should be used in the compares.Gwoody79's Compares: Vanilla ------------ HQ Skyrim Map (current STEP) ----------- HQ Paper map Vanilla ---------- Realistic Paper Dark (current STEP) ---------- HQ Paper bookTechAngel85's Compares: Vanilla >> STEP >> HQ Paper
torminater Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Looks good. If a admin supports it, it'll be marked for testing.
kryptopyr Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I assume from the description that this mod uses an .esp? Regardless, I think this might be worth getting some comparison shots. If nothing else, there may be textures that we would want to use, while allowing other to get overwritten (does step include any mods that change the scroll texture?). Would also need comparisons with HQ Skyrim Map.
gwoody79 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 After doing some in-game comparisons between current STEP (Realistic Paper dark and HQ Skyrim Map) and HQ Paper this is definitely worth a review. Personally, I liked HQ Paper better than Realistic Paper for the books, but preferred HQ Skyrim Map over HQ Paper. I will get some comparison shots posted in next day or two unless someone else does before me.
TechAngel85 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Worth a compare I think and I would agree on the maps simply because the author does more than just change the paper texure by adding elements to the maps. EDIT: OP Updated with Mod Testing requirements.
Lauren Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Does anyone know where clutter/books/tornpagetext.dds might pop up? You probably wouldn't be able to read it in game, but the text on it is addressed to "PO Box [] San Rafael California 94913," dated "February [], 1958" and obviously the rest of the letter... kind of odd to throw on there.
rootsrat Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Interesting, it may be an Easter egg possibly? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
WilliamImm Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 It sounds more like an mistake. Notify the author about it.
phazer11 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Lol. I'll download this and add it to my Testing profile.
gwoody79 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Here are some comparisons of vanilla/current step/HQ PaperHQ Paper does not have an esp, it is just textures/meshes. Vanilla ------------ HQ Skyrim Map (current STEP) ----------- HQ Paper map Vanilla ---------- Realistic Paper Dark (current STEP) ---------- HQ Paper book
Smile44 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 HQ paper basically seems to be a higher res version of vanilla, I prefer current STEP mods for the look but if improved vanilla is what we are after then HQ paper is closest, from these screenies.
TechAngel85 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Updated the OP with compares from each of the files. Opening up a poll. Lets get this one wrapped up!
Neovalen Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 My vote goes to HQ Paper replacing both our current map mod and realistic paper.
Kelmych Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I agree with others that HQ paper is the closest to being an HD version of the vanilla paper textures.
