peppergomez Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Been away from Skyrim for a few months, and updating my STEP install from 2.4 to 2.6 Would be best approach be to do the 2.5 install, then do the 2.6 over that, or can I just follow the 2.6 install instructions? Also, I am not sure which xpms maximum skeleton file I should be downloading from the Nexus site:    FULL RESOURCES v1-6  or    XPMS 1-81 NMM-BAIN Installer  (says it's recommended for NMM, but I am using Wrye Bash)
0 Omolong Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I think you can just go straight to 2.6 from 2.4. And I think you should download the NMM-BAIN Installer, as BAIN relates to the Wrye Bash Installers tab thing.
0 rootsrat Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Perfectly fine to skip 2.2.5 and go directly to 2.2.6. Just make sure to view changelog as some mods were dropped. Not sure about the 2nd question, I use MO as a mod manager.
0 peppergomez Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 OK thanks. Was worried that if I skipped 2.2.5 then I would miss notification about mods from 2.2.4 should I should remove/replace
0 peppergomez Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Hey guys, Reviving this old thread. I never did fully update my STEP from 2.2.4 to 2.2.6- real life got in the way. Doing so now and have a few questions still (I grew rusty with all things STEP related after a few months away): 1) How do I determine what mods in STEP will need to be updated- will BOSS do that for me? 2) Which begs the question- do I need to update BOSS, or will it prompt me to do so? 3) Is SKYUI 4.1 recommended in the current STEP install? 4) I have been removing those mods that the STEP changelogs call for by choosing Delete in the Wrye Bash Installers tab. Is that okay? 5) Where in Wrye Bash do I reorder the mods that the STEP changelog calls for (i.e. "Install-Order change: Guard Dialogue Overhaul moved from Gameplay to Fixes, Ruins Clutter Improvement has been moved up in Section F due to the two authors recommending it being installed before Better Dynamic Snow, Distant Decal Fix moved up in Fixes to above Unofficial Skyrim Patch." ) 6) Are there any other best-practice steps I should be following here that I might be forgetting, for the smoothest possible update process? 7) Have there been any updates to essential Skyrim modding-related tools, like SKSE, Script Dragon, or any unofficial Skyrim patches, since July? -edit- Just downloaded the Unoffiical Skyrim Patch 19-1-3-3c (I had 1a installed previously). Should I delete 1a and install 3c in its place? 8) The installation instructions for both New Idles for Skyrim https://wiki.step-project.com/New_Idles_for_Skyrim and Maximum Skeleton https://wiki.step-project.com/Maximum_Skeleton are confusing to me. With Maximum Skeleton, I see the XPMS 1-81 NMM-BAIN Installer 26800-1-81 in Wrye Bash Installers, but am I not sure how to run it from there as per the instructions on the step-project page above. Thanks!

(install order and load order is different) 6) Are there any other best-practice steps I should be following here that I might be forgetting, for the smoothest possible update process?None that I can think of. Be sure when uninstalling mods that you are following any author specific instructions and clean your saves. 7) Have there been any updates to essential Skyrim modding-related tools, like SKSE, Script Dragon, or any unofficial Skyrim patches, since July?Yes, just for SKSE update and install any new unofficial patches. We're not a Changelog on external mod updates though so check which ones need updating. 8) The installation instructions for both New Idles for Skyrim https://wiki.step-project.com/New_Idles_for_Skyrimand Maximum Skeleton https://wiki.step-project.com/Maximum_Skeletonare confusing to me. Thanks!
0 peppergomez Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Thanks a lot tech! I made a few edits while you were replying: Just downloaded the Unoffiical Skyrim Patch 19-1-3-3c (I had 1a installed previously). Should I delete 1a and install 3c in its place? Also, how do I clean my saves- are there instructions someplace on the STEP site? Can anyone answer questions 3 and 8 above? Thanks a lot.
0 TechAngel85 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Only use one USKP, so delete any old ones you have and just use the latest. To clean your saves, go to any inn, wait 12 hours (the 'T' button if you haven't changed your key mapping), save your game, uninstall your mods, load your game and wait another 12 hours, open console and type in clearinvalidregistrations in the console (you don't have to do this is you have it set in your SKSE ini 'clearinvalidregistrations=1'), wait another 12 hours and stand there for a few minutes to make sure SKSE has time to purge your saves. Now finally, re-save your game and it should be as clean as you can possibly get it. This method of my might be a bit overkill but it's sure to clean out as much as possible.

0 peppergomez Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 crap--- wish I would have waited to remove the older mods (deleted them from within Wrye Bash Installers tab) until after I posted. I didn't follow the above advice to wait 12 hours in an Inn and do those other steps. Hope I don't get CTDs trying to load a saved game.
0 peppergomez Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 Hey all, Wanted to follow up and see if having deleted the mods from my 2.2.4 build that are no longer active is going to break my saved games.
