Question

Posted

I just completed a 100% STEP mod install on top of a fresh Skyrim install. When I switch to 1st person I can not see my arms or weapons unless I look at the ground. Also, when moving forward the camera looks to the sky as soon as I hit the "w" key. When aiming with the bow the camera pulls to the left (the bow shoots in the direction I was facing before the camera moves). I have tried adjusting the FOV to no avail. I have deleted and let the game repopulate my INI files, and that didn't work either. Everything works as it should in 3rd person.

notice how small my bow is:

this is looking at the ground:

when I hit "w" to move forward the camera looks to the sky:

here I have my bow drawn and it is aiming to the right but the cursor and camera shift to the left:

this is the exact position as above only in 3rd person:

this is a 2 handed great sword. note how tiny it appears:

i should also add (figured it was a separate issue and needed it's own thread) that i get a crash to desktop 100% of the time on a new game start on the wagon. the farthest i made it was stepping out of the wagon. there are no error messages just a hard crash to desktop. i disabled all mods and still get this crash. when installing texture mods i opted for the highest quality as i have SLi 2gb 670's. i forgot about the huge hit my 2560x1440 resolution puts on the vram. i assumed the crash was due to vram overload and i would have to start over with lower res textures. i decided to try Another Start mod to make sure it wasn't just a Helgen issue. no matter where i start a new game with this mod i have zero issues (other than the 1st person view problem) and get 60 fps.

Helgen intro sequence is very hard on both GPU and CPU.

The higher your screen resolution, the more VRAM you need, esp. with high AA-settings and AF, etc.

I would:

1-> revert to clean vanilla install by: backing up current Skyrim folder, deleting the whole Skyrim folder afterwards and veryfying integrity of game cache through steam. Then I'ld start Skyrim through steam's skyrim launcher and start 30 times a new game and play it through to Riverwood. If you get a CTD more than 5 times in the process, consider checking your hardware, esp. overclocks for the culprit.

2-> consider lowering resolution for better performance OR disable/lower AA/AF and texture resoltutions to 1k max for all textures.

3-> Put in optimized vanilla esps and bsas. Check for issues.

4-> Activate your mod list/modded profile. Check for issues.

Did you accidentally install the first person skeleton from XPMS? It is there for a specific mod and I believe it causes problems if that mod is not also installed. Or vice versa, forgot to install the first person skeleton and do use the mod Joy of Perspective?

you just saved me a couple days of re-downloading, installing, and troubleshooting...
