Been trying to get my grass LODs colours blend in reasonably with loaded grass. So far I have only tried tweaking the ambient and direct lighting in TexGen for HD Grass LODs and tested on Whiterun Tundra. What I've noticed is that the more open, flat, expansive tundra grass is always a different colour to tundra grass around cliffs, mountains, rivers etc.

https://imgur.com/a/EBdG9BE tundra grass around cliffs, slightly bright but would be happy if all grass LODs looked like this consistently

I will continue my testing and generating DynDOLOD, I would be very interested if a pro could describe the difference between ambient and direct lighting and if one or the other could help my situation. Maybe there is also another setting I am missing in TexGen or DynDOLOD? I would be very happy to hear any advice.

Ambient is total lighting, while Direct creates more variation in brightness. If grasses have normal maps like with ENB complex grass or possibly CS, then Direct just gets in the way. Also adjust your DynDOLOD GrassBillboardTop/Bottom settings.

Try using these settings from our dev guide. Also note the DynDOLOD settings.

I'm not sure how CS works with complex grass or grass normals.

@sheson will know more about that if it matters.

Thank you, good info.

Would you say the grass LODs from screenshot in open tundra are being effected by ambient lighting?

Changing INIs from DynDOLOD settings made a BIG difference, however its had a bit of a hit on performance.

If anyone knows which of these INI settings has the biggest impact on performance so I can reduce them, I  U

The ini settings I mentioned have no impact on performance. They just affect grass color/brightness. If you want to increase performance, then you must alter mesh rules for other object LOD. Read https://dyndolod.info/Help/Performance

Also see the Step guide documentation on performance/quality.

Post on the DynDOLOD support forums if you still have questions about increasing performance.

Thanks for the help. In the end the DynDOLOD settings and turning off direct lighting solved my issues. I've ended up using a different grass mod because the one I was using was extremely good quality, unfortunately :(

Thanks again!
