Can I use Legacy of the Dragonborn for STEP 2.3?

There's several topics discussing LotD and clearly some people have made it work... back in 2022. So two tries: first, I tried disabling book covers. Unfortunately, the step patches depend on them. And that probably means that after I remove them as masters, I will have to reapply the changes to legacy. Second try was just loading the full step 2.3 with Legacy. Now my game randomly freezes and I have to kill it with task manager, and that also means it doesn't make a crash log. Anybody else make it work?

We obviously don't know much about it, but it's been discussed around here. Maybe there's something helpful.
