FAILED loading DDS (80004005) Error loading texture Executing TexConv returned error

DinoInDisguise

Question

Hello,

I'm now trying to run the x64 version on BC3 instead of BC7 because BC7 causes access denied issues on non-protected folders. Mod Organizer 2, Skyrim, and Dyndolod are all on a separate drive from the OS.

Now, I appear to get "Exception in unit userscript line 342: One or more errors occurred"

But the errors are in finding files that don't exists, so I'm baffled why it's looking for them, or what to do about. If this is an inability to write to the folder, I have no way to bypass it, as no protection on the TEMP folder exists, no antivirus is present, and Dyndolod is run as an admin.

So I'm beginning to think Dyndolod is currently having issues with mod organizer 2.  Situation is a fresh install of Skyrim SE with the following installed, all latest versions:

SKSE
Papyrus Util SE
Indistinguishable Billboards

DynDoLod Resources SE 2.60

and running Dyndolod 2.61. Game files have been verified with no errors. Masters have been tested both cleaned, and uncleaned, no change in outcome. Default INIs, Mod organizer 2.

This is after inconsistent results, where with identical load orders, sometimes it fails sometimes it doesn't. And this is with the TEMP folder being un-restricted by the OS and no antivirus installed.

EDIT: Windows 10, 64 bit version of DynDoLod.

I dont want to post a second thread to expand on the original post here, but this is a different scenario.

Below is a log from a load order that succeeded moments before, with no changes to the load order. What happened is I enabled, in MO2, three texture mods that were not enabled when Dyndolod succeeded. DynDoLod failed, so I disabled those mods one by one and it failed every time. After these three tries, the load order was identical to the successful attempt, and dyndolod failed.

I reinstalled dyndolod. Same result. I reset MO2, same result.

Interesting points, at no point did MO2 close, or add files to the virtual system during the process. The overwrite folder was emptied every time. Finally, I have the output of the successful attempt saved in case you are interested.

I guess what you found out is that the version of MO you are using might have issues.

Have look at the log from MO. Test with the new 2.2.1 alpha builds from the MO discord.

As already mentioned earlier, next version will print the source texture path and filename for which the issues occurs.

So other than testing the 2.2.1 alpha build, is there anything I can do? I tried disabling all my mods and still didn't help. I really just want to finish the S.T.E.P modlist and start playing the game.

Get the version 2.62 I just uploaded  latest version

It will tell you the path and filename of the texture TexConv is trying to convert.

I currently believe once a texture is corrupt it needs to be reinstalled from the mods archive the texture comes from.

It seems the texture is somehow replaced with a mangled version.

Once a texture is corrupt, trying different MO versions is not going to help. It would help if we knew what steps/combination of events causes this exactly. Then testing with different version to see if this is something new...

The MO log / crash log might have additional information, but I am not even sure what to look for at the moment.

There are also other file and folder issues reported on MOs discord with the solution to update Windows 10 to 1089. Maybe it is related.

Hello,

First, thank you for the wonderful work in Skyrim, it's unbelievable to be able to see that an aging game is still so dominant in every possible way, thanks to people working on it in an often more efficient way than actual employees!

As for the reason of my post, I'm aware that the "line 342" may not help to identify the issue (or maybe it does?). The only thing I know is that I can't get the DynDOLOD to execute without getting this error :

- Exception in unit userscript line 342: One or more errors occurred

It seems to be happening when processing Tamriel, and I can't get to understand what I do wrong.

I attached the log file "DynDOLOD_SEE_log.txt" to this post. On another matter, I noticed that in the "DynDOLOD\Edit Scripts\Export" folder, the "LODGen_SSE_Tamriel" is much, much larger than the other ones (17 MB), and I wonder if it is normal?

Thank you

Antoine

Ok, here are my new and improved 2.62 logs

Bugreport.txt

DynDOLOD_SSE_log.txt

What do I do now. I'm really new at this and don't know much about this so your help is really appreciated.

The log shows this error

Error preparing textures for atlas: Error loading textures\dlc01\lod\dlc01castlefortlod.dds: Can not create temp folder for TexConv D:\Bethesda Modding Tools\DynDOLOD\temp
It tries to create the folder if it doesn't exist, but it can't.

Remove the -t command line and let it use the default temp, which usually works fine.

Thank you for redirecting me here. It helped me to solve a first issue. It turned out to be that I had the "Fluffy Snow for Majestic Mountains" mod installed, but without having the "Majestic Moutains" mod installed.

Now, I have installed the 2.62 version of DynDOLOD and it gets a little bit farther than before in the process, but it stops at two new errors, with a more detailed information about the problematic textures :

- Error preparing textures for atlas: Error loading textures\lod\icefloessolid02lod.dds: Executing TexConv returned error: "C:\Skyrim Mods\DynDOLOD\DynDOLOD-Standalone.2.62\DynDOLOD\Edit Scripts\Texconvx64.exe" -nologo -y -m 1 -f R8G8B8A8_UNORM -o "C:\Users\antoi\AppData\Local\Temp\SSEEdit" "C:\Users\antoi\AppData\Local\Temp\SSEEdit\3949C9BCC4D3454AA0A20C4FF10C970D.dds">

- <Error preparing textures for atlas: Error loading textures\lod\norrunicamphitheatre01lod.dds: Executing TexConv returned error: "C:\Skyrim Mods\DynDOLOD\DynDOLOD-Standalone.2.62\DynDOLOD\Edit Scripts\Texconvx64.exe" -nologo -y -m 1 -f R8G8B8A8_UNORM -o "C:\Users\antoi\AppData\Local\Temp\SSEEdit" "C:\Users\antoi\AppData\Local\Temp\SSEEdit\5B18C8D309224D069FBC25D9AA33EA11.dds">

Is there a way to accurately determine which mods use the "icefloessolid02lod.dds" and "norrunicamphitheatre01lod.dds" textures? The issues happens while processing Tamriel. I can't seem to attach the log file, as if the previous file I attached was still being considered in the 500 KB limit, so I only have 12.22 left. Here are the last lines of the log file :

I removed the -t command from the arguments area and I still got an error. What do I do next?

As  you can see, now the message tells you the problematic texture Error loading textures\lod\whstoneflat2lod.dds

The texture somehow got corrupted and needs to fixed.

Look up the texture path in MOs right window Data tab, to find out which mod supplies it. It will be DynDOLOD Resources or TexGen output

So either install DynDOLOD Resources again or rerun TexGen.

Thank you

Use MOs right window data tab to find which mod supplies the textures, then reinstall the mod or just replace the textures from download archive directly.

If the log is too big, truncate the log to the last generation only. Upload to pastebin or a file service.

I reinstalled dyndolod recources and ran texgen again just to be safe. Now dyndolod stops responding on the same area of the log. Now what?

That seems to be an old bugreport.

Best to also make a clean reinstall all of DynDOLOD.

Then make a screenshot. Check/post bugreport if it exists.
