[Skyrim STEP Extended] Really, I mean REALLY long first time loading.

Question

Hi, I'm new here in the STEP guide.
I've been modding Skyrim and playing it since 2014 but just now I got a good PC to *really* mod it.
I have followed every single instruction, and yes I have read the post stating that the first time it loads it will take a lot of time, but it simply takes TOO much time.
I opened SKSE through mod organizer and the game opens up, Bethesda Logo, then Main menu turning logo. And it stays there, black background, no music, no "New Game" or "Settings", just the logo turning around for more than 2 hours now.

You mean you're still working to release STEP V3?

Yep. It's a compete rework of the guide, but also includes a complete rework of our web presence, framework that the guides are built on, and new content. Pretty much everything is being built or rebuilt from scratch.

 

I've handled all the guide work by myself. The Extended Guide is basically complete and in the testing phase. The Core Guide can be put together and finished with a few days of work since all the work for it was, more or less, competed within the reworking of the Extended Guide.

Hi, I'm new here in the STEP guide.

I've been modding Skyrim and playing it since 2014 but just now I got a good PC to *really* mod it.

I have followed every single instruction, and yes I have read the post stating that the first time it loads it will take a lot of time, but it simply takes TOO much time.

I opened SKSE through mod organizer and the game opens up, Bethesda Logo, then Main menu turning logo. And it stays there, black background, no music, no "New Game" or "Settings", just the logo turning around for more than 2 hours now.

Hi,

I disabled the Bashed Patch.esp and the game loaded great into main menu, then I started a new game but the game seems to CTD after the very long first loading screen.

I'm guessing I have to remake my bashed patch?

So I just follow the instructions on the "Bashed Patch" STEP page and I should be fine?

So I remade my INI files and now the game loads for more time before CTD occurs. So I'm guessing it loaded more mods.

I also selected every ENB option in the STEP Extended installation, like installing Realistic Water Two ENB textures. But I have not yet installed an ENB. Could this be causing the CTD??

So now I have installed Tetrachromatic ENB and applied the ENB option on BethIni.

I have remade my step patch taking DesyncBirdsOfPrey.esp off the merging mods and launched Skyrim.

The main menu still freezes with Bashed Patch installed.

So I disabled the bashed patch and ran the game, created a new game and the game loaded for even more time before CTD, 2 hours now. The ENB worked because I could distinguish different colors on the Alduin Loading Screen.

So I disabled the bashed patch and ran the game, created a new game and the game loaded for even more time before CTD, 2 hours now. The ENB worked because I could distinguish different colors on the Alduin Loading Screen.

There are other plugins which are causing the Bashed Patch to freeze at main menu then. The only other one I know that does it is SGR Enhanced Trees Activator.esp from Enhanced Vanilla Trees. It took me two hours of running and rerunning the Batched Patch while only enabling one mergable plugin at a time while building the patch, then running the game to see if it loaded properly. You may have to do the same to find the other plugins causing the issue and exclude them from your Bashed Patch.

Your CTD is likely unrelated to the Bashed Patch since you've been able to go longer and longer. I would install Crash Fixes and enable logging to check on it when the game crashes. Though it is possible for your crash to be performance related with only a 750 Ti. Though newer, the 750 Ti is not as powerful as our recommendation of at least a GTX 660.

 

Edit:

You should also run BethINI to clean up your INIs to ensure you have no bad edits. That's the reason it's a part of the STEP installation. It's clear you have not done this according to your posted INIs.

After applying medium settings on Beth Ini and downloading latest NVIDIA drivers the game started after a brief, very brief indeed, loading screen. It looks great. 

However I average 20 FPS. 

I don't think aplying low settings on Beth Ini will change much. So I'm wondering which mods are the most impactull so I can reinstall them in their LQ instead of HQ as I did.

Also, do you think Tetrachromatic ENB is very GPU demanding? If so, should I try Vividian ENB?

I will also overclock my GPU by 10% once I get a problem with ASUS GPU Tweak fixed.

I have yet another doubt, I want to install the STEP Pack "A real Explorer's Guide to Skyrim" which is fully compatible with STEP Extended, but with the FPS I got this time I'm not sure it's a wise decision to throw more mods at my PC. I also got almost no space in my SSD because i think MO is making crazy duplicates of every mod or something. It's using 27 Gigs right now. I will try to clean up everything else.

Your ENB will be the most demanding. You can try Vividian ENB with the performance presets, but the honest truth here is that you probably shouldn't be running an ENB with that card.

 

The most intensive mods to downgrade would be the overhauls, like SRO. You can use DDSopt to confine the size of that mod to 2048x2048, at most. Other things I would do is cap exterior textures to 1K and interior textures to 2K, at most. You shouldn't be using any 4K textures. It won't be a detailed, but you'll get better framerates.

Do you think upgrading to a GTX 1050 Ti 4GB will make any difference?

It would perform better and get you to where you want to be, but if you going spend money on an upgrade I would recommend at least a GTX 1060. It's only about $40 or $50 more, but it performs a lot better than the 1050.

I disabled Tetrachromatic ENB. Now I have a solid 60 FPS.

Who knew some lighting effects were such threat!

 

Now I would like to install REGS.

The pack page indicates that it is fully compatible with STEP Extended. However it does not indicate very well whether I should install these mods after or before the STEP Compilation Patches in my left pane of MO.

 

After installing this pack (and a few other mods) I will have to do every patch again, right?

FNIS, DynDOLOD, Dual Sheath, Bashed...

      Hey! I've been having this issue for well over a year; I follow the instructions for Dyndolod+Open Cities in the manual/from the GamerPoets web page, generate my LOD and get double LODs created for these cities and I could really use the help getting this nightmare fixed.
      To clarify; the tutorial told me to;
      Disable Open Cities+patches Run Dyndolod+select appropriate setting (high+custom tree and water LOD rules for getting rid of water LOD seams+generating 3D tree LODs which worked fantastically! Basically all I did was make use of the full models for water and used the appropriate static models for trees) Disable generate Dyndolod, enable the other options (except trees for me as generating 3D tree LODs means generate tree LOD is greyed out, per the manual instructions) Start+exit (not save+exit when complete) Comment out Open Cities from Dynodlolod_SSE.ini under the heading warnmodfilename+save document Re-enable Open Cities+patches in your load order Run Dyndolod+select identical setting which you selected in .2 Enable generate Dyndolod, disable generate *insert option here* Start+save and exit when complete. Install via your method of choice. I've also minded my load order since Dyndolod copies records from the last overriding file (this fixed my Solitude Open Cities LOD issue) but this hasn't fixed my Whiterun Open Cities LOD issue (and I've no city overhaul mods installed specifically for Whiterun so conflicting records in theory shouldn't be an issue here).
      So....ummm...please help? lol

      Every second or so in game I get a strange stutter/hitching that only seems to happen when im moving or looking around, I can hold 60fps solidly and my computer isn't under pressure from the game and everything runs perfectly besides this stutter.
      Very light modlist right now with only dyndolod, obsidian weathers + enb, aswell as cbbe and the usual smim and unofficial patch.
      Running on a rtx2070.
      If anyone knows a solution for this you would be a lifesaver.

      Hello guys.Sorry for my bad english in advance.I could use some help with any mods that make Skyrim looks cool, although i've got some,  im interesting in texture, lighting and enviromental mods not so much about armor and clothing xD.My pc specs are GTS 250 1gb plus modified it a bit ( overclocking ), i5 3570 3.4GHz, 8gb RAM ddr3 at 800mhz (Dual Channel 1600) and ssd (i don't know if it matters xD) and i play on 1920x1080 screen.Also i wanna use optimizer textures correct so if anyone has good settings for armor, weapons etc or even for textures without losing quality please leave a screenshot.Much appreciation in any help in advance.
