Seeking advice on DynDOLOD.

Question

Posted

Hello, all! So, i am more or less just seeking advice on something. I have returned to skyrim (SE)  modding after a LONG break and saw stuff about this wonderful tool that changes lod. I read up on it and decided to try it. I started with a fresh install and used the video in one of the post here for ultra trees. This one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2uHZLNeXqo. I followed it to a tee i like to think, and then installed the rest of my mods. I was met with utter disappointment. To preface this real quick, my LOD and graass always seemed horrible for being on ultra. I guess thats just vanilla?

Anyway, this was my result: https://imgur.com/a/EDfcq. The top is what the video should result in and the bottom is mine (lol cow) after following the guide. I have no clue what i did wrong. I also feel like that is horrible. Is that vanilla? If so god it's been a long time. I can't even tell if the tree mods worked. I don't have nearly as many or as different as the vid author.

So, after defeat twice i just wiped it all again and i'm gonna follow this guide. Is there a way after following this guide i can still use this tool and how, and any ideas on why my first and second attempt failed? Sorry if i seem daft. It has been a long time since i modded skyrim. Oh, here is my modwatch page of the load order at the time of the first and second tries to follow that guide.

Thanks, everyone! :D

If you have questions about third party guides, you should ask the guide author. I can make some observations regardless:

There is no such thing as LOD for grass. Grass can only be drawn as far as the loaded cells.

If you compare the full model trees in the loaded cells - the grass line is a good indicator - with the LOD trees beyond the loaded cells you can see that they seem to match perfectly. So 3D tree LOD seems to be working fine for the installed trees.

It also seems the additional LOD objects from DynDOLOD fill the landscape nicely and for example the LOD dirtcliffs picked up a landscape texture replacement.

Unrelated to DynDOLOD: Lighting seems bright and washed out, could be ENB or a weather mod - user preference of course. It seems you didn't install a "large" tree option. You don't seem to have the same mod that adds tree to the tundra. The terrain LOD texture may be still vanilla, find a suitable terrain LOD mod or for the landscape texture setup or generate terrain LOD textures for the load order with Oscape.

90% of the difference between those two screenshots appears to be work of lighting/weather mods.  Get your ENB/weather mod sorted out, and it should look

Thank you guys for replying and your words of wisdom. As for the lighting, yeah that was an enb/weather combo that i SWEAR looks better in person lol. That's interesting about the grass and the fact that it all seemed to work. Looking at it closer, you are right. My trees are in the same place, just smaller i guess. I'll ask the guide author about using DynDOLOD with it. I'm half way through and i'm happy with the results so far. I really appreciate your replys! :D
