STEP Extended too bright for me

Question

Posted

Hi all ::): I'm having problem with too bright places like dragonsreach (taken at 2am)

while other places are ok to me like whiterun catacombs

Is this problem with RS+ELE? Is it safe to remove RS and install ELFX? Will it even help? I remember having CoT + ELFX back in the day and it looked better (or maybe my memory is corrupted  ::D: ). Will it conflict with ELE (with or w/o CoT)? I found topic with STEP w/o ELE compilation patch but link don't work anymore  ::(: Other then STEP Extended I have immersive armors/weapons, CBBE with phisics, equipment overhaul, wearable lanterns and some other mods like eyes of beauty and apachii hair. I tried STEP EXtended only but same problem.

What should I do?

Off topic question (or is it): when i need to run DynDOLOD again? After lighting changes? Armor mods? Or is it just for distant lod and don't need to run it again ever?

Thanks for creating great guide for us noobs

That's pretty much normal lighting for STEP. It doesn't change much from vanilla using only STEP.

Ty for quick answer :D

Now how do i improve it?

The first image is exactly what it is supposed to look like.

If you want darker interiors you have some choices.

*ENB - Has a little bit of a hit but is worth it and requires no patching. I may be able to provide some recommendations if you specific the style, color and brightness. I tend to use the brighter presets as I hate not being able to see stuff.

*Different lighting mod - ELFX is great and all but I don't know how ingrained RS is in the patches. I know ELE is pretty deep but I would recommend the combo of ELFX + ELE anyway. Look at SRLE for specific details on those two.

*Darker interior mod - for dungeons you could use Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons - Eternal Darkness Redone but it only covers dungeons and the rest will be normal.

EDIT: "Improve" is subjective. I've been around for awhile and have some ideas above

I love u guys  ::D: I checked step patch requirements and RS is not required if that is what you meant to say.

Huh, then it would probably be fine to replace it with elfx.

Ele should overwrite most of elfx light values.

Just a heads up, elfx may cause light flickering due to an engine limitation. Its not the mods fault as he edits the meshes but some meshes get overriden.

I replaced RS+ELE with ELFX+CoT and result is this

and it used to be this

Both screenshots were taken at 2am.

In my opinion it looks much better. I used ELFX enhancer and CoT level 2 dark nights . Now nights are little bit too dark for my taste so i will probably set CoT to level 1 dark nights.

I added Supreme Storms and True Storms to the mix too on top of Wonders of Weather and CoT.

I would like to try enb like RealVision but I'm scared of fps drop  I have 50~60fps (mostly 60 and I capped it @60 in enblocal.ini) at all times so far (just arrived to Whiterun). I have i5 2500k @4.4ghz 12gb ram and 7870hd (I use HDD). On RealVision page it is recommended to use performance edition for gtx660 which is similar to 7870hd but I'm not sure how much will I lose in quality when compered to medium or full edition. Will I see much increase in picture quality when compered to its cost in performance?

Once again thanks for your help and great guide

Well, coloring is all subjective so just try it and see. :^_^:

For example, the ELFX/CoT image above is far too orange for my tastes. I personally use Vivid Weathers rather than CoT, but some of it's fires are too orange as well. Fire light is nowhere near that orange. It's just something I've decided to live it to benefit from the extended weather system, though.

Hello, I finally finished with all installs. I'm now using EFLXenhancer + CoT + RealVision ENB and the game looks great to me:

But now i have another problem   ::(:  When I'm sneaking and not using torches or lanterns I can't see in dark places (duh) but AI can! Is there any way to fix this? i found this mod but its old, and judging but post on this forum not really bug free. Other option is to some sort of night vision spell but I'm unable to find right mod  ::(:

What should I do?

Thank you for quick answer.

But my problem is that I can't see them! They don't use torches/lanterns so I cant sneak attack them with bow because I cant see them in dark  ::(: I found this mod Realistic AI Detection but I'm waiting for answer from mod about forcing AI to use light sources

I found Immersive NPC in the dark too but it looks like its old, buggy and script heavy so I'm not so sure about it

I use Stealth Skills Rebalanced because it does pretty much everything Realistic AI Detection does and rebalances more of the stealth spectrum (including lockpicking and pickpocketing). I don't think either mod forces NPCs to carry a light source (like a torch) in the dark, so I try to make up the difference with sound and movement. If I don't detect anything, I may fire off a long bow shot with a cheap iron arrow to force NPCs to come out of hiding. Once I detect them moving, I can either pick them off with ranged attacks or pick off as many as I can and backtrack out of the area to avoid detection. On occasion I bump right smack into an NPC I failed to detect, but I think it's the nature of the game. Of course, you may need to adapt to different techniques if you use one-handed or two-handed weapons.

I'm going to use that and i'm going to create mod that distribute torches among npc in wilderness and in dungeons (not to vampires, cats and blind elves). How hard can it be  ::D:

Thank you all for your input
