Using Save Game Script Cleaner When MO Manages Your Saves?

RagnarTolletson

Question

Hello --

I am new to the forum and relatively new to Mod Organizer (about 2 months) and to Skyrim  itself  (about 4 months).  I appreciate any help with what I am sure is a simple question -- but I haven't been able to find the answer after some hours of searching.

I would like to clean up my save games to improve performance -- I suspect I have a number of orphaned scripts, etc. from activating and deactivating mods in my different profiles.  After reading the reviews, I have downloaded and installed Save Game Script Cleaner, and have watched the tutorials.  Looks like a good, simple solution.

The problem I can't solve is that I can't find my save games to load up into Save Game Script Cleaner.  The last save I can find is from January 2016, just before I began running the game through Mod Organizer- SKSE.

I see the save games over in the right pane, and can load and play those -- but how do I copy them to:  (a) make backups, or  (b) clean the save?

I assume I am missing something obvious, but would appreciate any help.

Well, I do have multiple profiles, and have about 100 plugins installed now.  I've done some uninstalls, and deactivated some mods after experimenting with them.  Not outrageous choices of mods -- almost all quite popular and well-reviewed -- but a fair lot of them, and I  don't always do it right -- learning curve.

My laptop was really good three years ago -- so now middling at best.  My load time had become quite slow, and while I haven't been been crashing much recently (used to have more problems with CTD before I figured some things out), I was and am still looking for ways to optimize my game.  Activated the Skyrim Memory Patch yesterday, as well as ENBoost, which have both seemed to help.

I ran the Save Game Script Cleaner this afternoon after reading GSDFan's advice, and it has helped my load speed tremendously.  I believe it got rid of about 1300 orphaned scripts and broken references.  Enjoyed playing the game where I could actually walk out of an Inn and have just a few seconds wait to load.

Fair enough. Orphaned scripts is about all it's good for but the best option is to not load/unload scripted mods mid game.

Make a new profile, as you have been doing, and try the mod to see if it fits your playstyle and then add it into a new game. At any rate I'm glad you have it all sorted now and welcome to STEP. We try to provide a good stable modding experience so if you come across any issues feel free to ask, you will never be berated for asking, what many consider, basic questions.
