  1. Guess that thread is where the angry crowd is going. And here I was expecting more trouble due to all this here... good to see the good tone and technical debate going on instead! Keep it up! :D Would also be nice that it gets official SKSE support... will sort out many weird issues down the road!
  2. Post processing should not be able to do this sort of stuff. If the textures are sound and open up in photoshop, gimp DDSopt view etc. and look fine outside of the game but not inside, then it is most likely the mesh that has some bad settings. However I have never heard about a mesh being able to get bad settings and not just cause the engine to crash outright... so most likely the texture is just bad.
  3. CoT Night levels.. the way it should have been done from the start... just applied on vanilla as well. A nice little extra option to make nights darker.
  4. Actually it is not only DoF effects that bug out... even your torch can bug out, and depending on view angle the refraction's can mess up as well... guess this is part reason why it was never implemented even though the engine supports it. My main issue with it is that the resolution of the effect is normally such that it is horrible for smaller detailed items, while for larger items like rocks and stalhrim deposits it can actually work quite nicely.
  5. Nothing is 100% CTD proof... You can still overload the game with textures even if you have a 4Gb VRAM card and 32Gb RAM. This just make the gap a bit more wide for what you can do without memory related issues. Also running about for 30 mins with speed mult 1k is quite good actually. As for my own testings... I can only load up ugrids 7 or I get an ILS or CTD upon load. But well ugrids 7 seems to be running... other then the fact that I cant play at that setting due to average FPS drops down below 20. Think I will just use this to make ugrids 5 a bit more stable with more high resolution textures.
  6. Beat me too it (About SSME)... however yeah, his approach is at odds with just about all AV software, and since he does not share source then the approach is not really that great of an idea. It is unfortunate with the current SKSE way to do stuff. However once more test data etc. is in then I guess it would be possible for the SKSE team to host both a file with and without the memory extension. Edit: The =1 part can be whatever you want. Sheson was just being a good jest with his original define choice ;)
  7. Think those colors are something Boris sets internally to help differentiate the various windows.
  8. Z in your gameplay testing do you just run about doing this and that minor quest, or do you actually start like the main quest so dragon events happen all the time, or the civil war so those events happen... it is all well and good if you can run about and look at the scenery.. but if it breaks the instant any sort of dynamic event happen then we are still more or less at status quo. Edit: Also the higher level you become, then by default the more stuff unlocks from the leveled lists, adding even more stuff to load. So it is not enough to just run about at a set and low level range either.
  9. The main issue is that many countries in the world, do the same, or worse on a smaller scale. In general Russia, and China are against any operation that means overthrowing governments due to democratic issues, since if they first start to go down that road, it will mean massive issues in their own countries. (How can they support changes abroad that they cannot support at home.) Also there is the issue of sovereignty... if the UN just interferes every time a local government is not democratic etc. then that effectively means that the UN is the government! Since they decide what goes and what does not. And there are just too many ideological differences still for any to accept that sort of thing to happen. Lastly.... democracy is all well and good.. but it really does break down when you have a near 50% division on a major topic... add on cultural and religious differences on top and democracy just wont work, since it is so easy to cause conflicts.
  10. Not sure what you mean there... :S There are individual color GUI elements that can be tweaked to any color if those are the ones you talk about.
  11. Look right yes! :) Make sure you delete the old enbeffectprepass.fx file in the skyrim folder too.. or it will take precedence over the other I think. Should be fairly apparent if you made a mistake along the way I would think hehe!
  12. Depends on how much control you feel the need for. Most patches you just merge into the existing mod folder... unless you want a seperate folder for every single patch. Same with optionals, since they often overwrite something from the main mod. Load order for patches is mostly done by BOSS. If not then in case of patches, then after the mod the patch is for. If an optional then most likely after the parent mod. Hope that answers it.
  13. Nice pics, especially the 3rd one! Except for the first one.. but that is classic ELFX super yellow! Hard to get rid of that unless you use ELE in conjunction with enbeffect.fx edits. The new sun is going to require some amount of work to get working properly... since it works in an entirely different way. I just finished updating my ENB to support it... and man it took some tweaking and recodeing! However for more muted presets like sombre it should be a bit easier since saturation does play a rather large role. As for the CTD´s... well I also get the odd CTD when killing a SiC monster, etc. It is acceptable for what I have installed atm.
  14. Okay found out what does the lighting. It is lightsprite in combination with the particle lights effect. If you disable particle lights it will go away. This will be in all ENB presets that has this on, altering the light sprite can alter how intense it looks however. Gonna try to file a bug report to Boris later and then see if it is fixable or not. The clouds I am still at a loss about. Have not been able to reproduce that in any scenario unless I tweak Vol fog values to extreme levels... which I assume you have not done.
  15. There still is a limit imposed by DX9, that no amount of modding will fix! :)
  16. Guess we should make a sticky post about VRAM measurements... they are not the same as RAM.. since read/write buffering etc. is done in a different way then to RAM. Hence you get different values on a system with 2Gb, 3Gb, 4Gb... Yet all can run the game with the same settings equally well. But there is no harm in getting a 4Gb if you can and the price is good. Minimum I would suggest is 3Gb, that should last enough into some next gen titles. Again if you use multiple displays etc. then more is always better. If you just run a single monitor then it is better to spend more on a better GPU then more memory.
  17. Always try to reduce texture load as a first approach (Not sure if you have tried that). If it still happens with just the HDDLC then it is most likely not memory related. You could also try that new memory patch, seems to help in quite a few cases so far. If none of that works, then you most likely got some mod that causes it. If it also happens with just vanilla then something really odd is going on. Hope that helps a little bit.
  18. Did you not actually go into the game? Would be kinda sad for ya if ya say it is compatible but then CTD when loading a game! ;) Some shaders and features are not initialized until game is loaded.
  19. Ultimately it comes down to if ENB can be used or not... if not then it is not usable for a large segment of players. And having to chose over better graphics or the ability to alt-tab.... I know what I want more! ;) But that said it is nice that people still want to work on issues like this! Hopefully it will inspire the next title in the series to have more options!
  20. A badly setup enblocal.ini file (The MEMORY subsection) will cause massive stuttering.... only way to get it away is by trial and error until you figure out what works for your system! Sorry but each system is unique in this regard. Also driver version affects ENBoost as well. If the stuttering persist no matter what, then you simply need to reduce texture load, since then you have a bottleneck somewhere in your system that cannot handle the data transfer load you are asking of it. Can happen if you have a cheap motherboard for example.
  21. Well I guess the ban button was given to authors for a reason! :)
  22. Small note for ENB users.. if you do use mods like this then volumetric rays will no longer work since they need the fog to render. In general any enb preset that relies on the vanilla weathers would probably be ruined by this sort of deal since the authors have taken the fog into account. But to each his or her own, that is the beauty of it! :) Also any FPS gains would be really really minimal, so that should not be the reason to remove it.
  23. Okay finally just got time to give em a full whirl about ingame! However my initial conclusions have not changed... In fact I think the general thing is that like with any of your landscape textures Cabal... then you just really start to notice what you have not made! This will hopefully get sorted over time... but I think I will let it stay in for now, since it is better then the HDDLC which I am currently using. Keep up the good work!
  24. Mine works fine.. odd... guess you have some sort of missing resource in your setup. Guess one could open the cell in the CK and then figure out what is required for that specific spot. Also check the cell in tes5edit to see what mods you have that alter it. But before doing all that make sure it is not just a silly missing mesh or sound file etc.
  25. What SMIM mostly do is to increase the detail of the meshes, or models of various objects. This comes at the expense of performance, since more complex models means more computation required to render then. Depending on what else you put in then this will cost almost nothing in terms of performance or quite a lot.
